ok im not at home so ill try my best
what os are you using?
im going to guess XP
ok
go into control panel
administrative tools
and disk mangement
and in there should be the drive with no drive space set up
right click on the new drive space in that box and click format, should then set the drive to the full amount format and bobs ya uncle and should now appear as a full empty drive

also if it came with any driver CD or installation cd that coems with drives try that first. or after if no change. Pc may not be able to pick it up because it doesn't recognise the devise and doesn't knwo how to display it.
if not goto the hard drive's website look for download and support try their driver if they supply any on there. shud work that way!

Also this can happen if the external drive is using the same letter as a current disk/drive, I think go to my computer, right click manage then change the new harddirive letter to one that is not being used and it should appear.
