Low boost turbo
Hi, I've got a mk2 vts and I'm planning a low boost turbo conversion (about 5 psi), this might sound like a stupid question but is it vital to run an Intercooler or can you get away with a twin fan setup? Also can someone give me a list of what I will need please?
Help from people with experience in this field much appreciated.

Stupid idea to run a Turbo without an intercooler, the engine won't last long at all.

search the FAQ's section, or indeed anywhere on the site, even look down the first 1 or 2 pages of this section, youll find LOADS of info on turbo set ups

yeah really stupid question, considering an intercooler isnt even one of the most exspensive parts of a turbo conversion. you can get cheaper ones off ebay for less that £150, and even the forge ones arnt that much lol
have fun putting new piston rings and vavles in everytime you blow it

Do you know what an intercooler does?
Its not for cooling the engine down, it cools the air that goes into be burnt!

you could run a low boost conversion with out one yes with no ill effect,
unlike the people above say
alot of standard diesels didn't used to have them.
but i don't recommend running with out one for the cost.

as above...
all the intercooler does is cool the air coming out of the turbo before it enters the inlet,
cold air is more dense than warm air
so the colder the air the more you can get into the inlet
so you can get more fuel through
which gives you more powerrrrrr

intercoolers and fans are used for completely different things, you could have 10 fans, wouldn't make any difference lol its a bit like saying do i have to have doors on my car or can i get away with just using wheels lol
