Default CV joints, DIY job or garage?

Hi

I think my cv joints could possibly be broken, could this easily be solved myself or will it be better to take it to a garage for them to repair/replace??

thanks

ben

It can be done at home if you have a jack, axle stands and a decent tool kit. I take my time with cars and would be looking at 3-4 hours for both sides mate.

Get a recon driveshaft they are dirt cheap and most motor factors will get one for you. I paid £70 for both driveshafts complete last week and changed them myself. That way you have nice new joints and boots. I'd advise changing the oil seals at the diff end of each shaft though cos mine leaked afterwards, and I had to take shaft off again to fit a new seal. Seals are a few quid each from any bearing specialist, just take the old ones to them and they will match them up. Citroen will want £23 for the 2 seals, funking rip off! I paid £6 from the bearing specialists after buying the seals from Citroen to show the specialists what I wanted, then took seals back to Citroen for a refund lol
