Default 4 vtr engines made????

So there's the mk1 black top vtr engine and the mk2 silver top.
I have a mk1 engine which is silver top with the single plug ecu and metal oil filter.
I've recently bought an engine which I thought was the same as mine but, the dipstick is on the left side and mine is on the right side of the block but still has a metal oil filter...
The mk2's have a paper insert oil filter and mk1's have metal. .
What engine have I bought? ?? Will it drop straight into my car? ??
In lighten me please. ..!!!

Mk1 engine is a black top. You may have bought a Mk2 engine which is silver top but it may have been converted from the paper oil filter to the metal oil filter. The reason people do this is because the paper oil filter can get in the way of 4-2-1 manifolds so they convert them to the metal filters.

Nope, three different engines, look at the stickies.

Single plug blacktop 90 bhp early mk1
Single plug silvertop 90 bhp to 2001
Three plug silvertop 98 bhp 2001 onwards

What year car did the engine come out of??
