it all depends what u want a laptop for mate....

gaming, work, internet, music storage then once u know what your going to use the laptop for u can customise with alienware what u want, for instance if i was to game on that laptop it is defo going to need a better graphics card to future proof it... so what will u be doing on it?

Yeah I saw your thread.. That's crazy, but better for you wish all companies were like that!

They are a pretty specialized company, but you get what you pay for

Dell do some very good gaming laptops. Theyve got a gaming series called "XPS".

I spent £1,600 on my laptop. Its a Dell XPS M1710. Specs are as follows:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7400 Processor (2.16GHz,667MHz,4MB L2 cache)
Windows XP (Had VISTA and its crap imo. too many compatibility probs)
2GB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]
17.0" UltraSharp™ Wide Screen WUXGA (1920x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife™
100GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including software
512MB DDR3 nVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GTX graphics card

Fabulous gaming machine! I only bought it because I dont have room for a PC, wanted it for those quiet moments at work, and because I cant play games consoles- doctors orders (they make me really ill)

Alienware are very good machines but very over priced some of the case designs are imence though!

Dell arnt far behind alienware with the specs when you customise the machines....

the dell XPS tower gaming units are very very good specs however if you want a gaming tower you can build it yourself cheaper its just laptops that are the pain in the ass!

Nice work with the laptop though mate that graphics card and processor is much better! Happy gaming

Dell own Alienware which is why the price, specs on the XPS are about the same, I tried and found that the XPS was slightly more expensive..

I did look at a few normal laptops, and you can spend £1600 on a sony, phillips,hp with pretty low specs, I tried Falcon Notrhwest but means importing so i was left with only 1 option plus ont he design side I think the Alienware rocks

I've always wanted an Alienware laptop but i've heard recently that they can overheat alot and also motherboards can become faulty, would rather go for the Dell XPS M1330.

The Intel Core 2 Duo is a lovely processor.

I'm currently running a laptop with the following specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0, 4MB cache per core
2048MB DDR RAM
160GB 5400RPM SATA HDD

It runs smooth and fast. Especially for Gentoo Linux.

It's pretty fierce, runs like a beauty and couldn't ask for anything more from Dell to be honest.

I agree, no complaints from me either. My hard drive was making a funny noise, rang up the 24x7 XPS Help desk and explained what happened. They sent me a new Hard drive- no questions asked- and I got it 2 days later.
