Default Saxo Prices

I've noticed a few companies selling standard, low mileage VTRs for silly money recently. I know there were a few examples of concours GTis and VTSs for sale at high prices earlier this year, but now even the Mk2 VTRs are up for £5k.

Surely nobody would be willing to pay that much?

It's people/companies like that which drive up the price. Other people come along and see these ads and think their VTR is now worth big money as it's 'classic'.

I'm sure a few months ago you could get a decent VTR for £500 or less but they seem to be climbing rapidly.

Dealers on ebay saying it's a "classic", I mean fuck off.

It's more like get a 4 pack of heinz beans get a free saxo these days.

a VTR sold a few years ago, 9k on the clock from new for £1100.

they're worth fuck all.

VTS okay different story, but not a VTR.

I can sort of see it both ways to be honest. If someone is a working adult and would like a mint condition saxo (VTR or VTS) which they can enjoy as a second car say, store it in a dry garage, protect the bodywork etc. then they would probably rather spend a few grand on such a car. It's not for everyone to be spannering on these cars or any others.

Yes, I would be delighted to get a usable saxo for under a grand but if they were plentiful for £250 for example then it wouldn't be long before they were gone completely as nobody would look after them or spend anything fixing them, knowing that they can just scrap it and get another. This is precisely why all the mainstream popular cars disappeared. Novas? Escorts? minis? All worth a bomb now because they were so disposable at the time.

I think there's a place for all price points. Personally it was a VTR I was looking out for, never intended to get a VTS lol.

I agree, a few grand on a nice, standard VTS, not £5-6k on a VTR.

I’ve been watching the VTS slowly creep up since around 2014 with good condition, fair mileage, standard models fetching between £1.5-2.5k. I’ve seen a few on eBay and Gumtree for more, sometimes north of £4k, but I don’t know whether they ever sold. I can’t ever see it being a classic though, not in the same way the 205s, GT Turbos, GTEs etc. are. Similar condition 106 GTis are, and probably always will be, worth more.

I can pick up a vts now for £400 with rust issues. Not bad but not great rust and on the outside and inside looks mint.
If I had the £400 I'd get it for parts.

Its the cheap rotten ones which will inevitably drive up the value of the good non-rotten ones.

I bought my last vts for £350 I think it was. It was that price for a reason.

If you can find a good honest vts now, which has zero rust on it then its certainly worth paying a premium for. And for folk doing the track car thing, I'd probably be willing to pay more for a solid VTR shell than I would for a rotten VTS. A 16v converted solid VTR is a better option than a swiss cheese genuine VTS in my opinion.

There was a time when you probably coulda picked up crap examples of Escorts / Nova's / 205's etc for buttons - but now that all the crap examples are gone / dead, the good ones which are left are worth fortunes.

Mike Brewers new magazine is definitely worth a read then.
He's tipped the pre-facelift VTS as a car he believes will be a future classic.

The problem is finding a saxo that's not rotten these days most of them left on the road are an MOT away from being scrapped, with no replacement panels available from citroen either its only a matter of time before there's very few left

Before I got my Saxo VTR last September, which I found a minter -unmodified, no rust, all stamps, logbook and service records for £600. I was lucky, as it's worth minimum a grand. VTRs are not worth 5k at all.

I'm a mini guy and come from that community. I have two classic minis re-built. One worth between 5-6k and the other between 7-10k the higher one garaged as it's a minter and my show car which I only take out in the summer. And they would fetch them prices being classic minis alone and rising. I believe the Saxo VTR/VTS are future classics. They would never hit them prices like minis do, but still not many around on the road and that might bump there price in a few years.

VTSs are rarer and few and far between these days for an unmodified one, which has not been tracked and which is not a rust bucket. VTRs are more plentiful, but again, for a decent-none rust example you'd push for to get one for under 1k unless lucky like my example.... Again rising prices. My opinion anyway, could be wrong....
