Gearbox mount - Saxperience

Hi, im puzzled right now, i just changed the saxo diesel lower gearbox mount with a new press fitted bush.

All mounts are new now,
Now the problem is here, since i changed the lower mount my exhaust pipe moved back by about 6cm. Idont understand why i didnt even touch it.

I can see the front spring bolts are slightly bent downwards and the exhaust mounts are rolled back which indicate it has moved.

Also the gear linkage is rubbing with exhaust which makes 2nd, 4th and reverse slightly stiff to select.

Also the exhaust is rubbing with the front anti roll bar

Any ideas why it is this?

Is it because now that the new mounts are in the engine us in its correct place and it moved?

You've put the lower gearbox mount on upside down.

Very common mistake

However now that its good, first gear is a bit stiff, i checkes the gear linkages, they have alot of play in them.

Mine were a bit stiff, new standard linkages fixed it.

I tried the all metal ones but the gear changes just felt notchy.

If it's only stiff when running, you might just need to adjust the clutch cable a little bit. Mine was like that if the car was stationary, would be difficult to get into 1st but was fine when driving. I guess the clutch disengaged enough when driving to stop the gears from crunching.

Its doing it even when stopped also thats why i suspect linkages. Clutch is biting about half way. You know a good place where i can get all the linkages? Also i need that ball thing (rubber i think) because that has alot of play in it

Ill try locally, now another problem cropped up, my front left strut is binding, when driving and going over bumps the car is really rough on one side only.

I will change both front struts next week

The car became so low that i can barely fit a jack under, the strut has stuck in the compressed position

I had that happen with an old Bilstein B8 shock absorber, I went over a bump and it compressed and got stuck.

I just binned it haha! I did manage to free it off, but obviously re-fitting it would just seize again.

How would i go in replacing them?

The knuckle seems welded onto the strut

If you lift the dust cover, you will see a cap.

There is a special tool to remove it, but you can unscrew it with large plumbers pliers. Obviously the spring and top mount have to come off.

You need to remove the whole strut to change it.

Everytging was going well until i came to unbolt the top nut it wont come off with nothing, do i remove the cap before or after removing the spring?

When i try to unbolt the strut top bolt the strut itself is spinning, i tried gripping the strup with vice grips and the strut top mount with the allen key to no avail, i think i might give it to a shop to install them for me

I cut the shock shaft and removed everything, now i need to know, is there any orientation that i need to get when i install the new strut?

Or just align the end of springs with the notches and bolt on
