Default problem with power steering

hi my sister HAS A VTR an the power steering doesnt work but im sure if the heater fans and rear headed window dont work its fuse, relay or a broken wire in the ignition am i right?she doesnt have a hand book so i cant find out where the fuse or relay is to check them.

under the bonnet, near the power steering pump (right hand side) is a grey round relay - that is another problem that can occour.
I have a spare one if you want it? PM me

if you follow the cables up from the power steering pump, you will see an inline fuse not far from the grey relay. But if your interior heater and rear window heater are not working then I would look at the ignition barrel. The plastic bit at the back end of them are prone to melting.

funny that... this is the exact problem ive got at the minute
my power steerings temperamental... sometimes itll work and then most of the time it doesnt... but i took the key out n put it back in n started the car and it worked for abit!
the heaters dont work when the powersteerings not working...
went to the garage and my battery and alternator are fine so i was thinking maybe its a relay? but i needed to know if there deffinately linked via the same relay

Default Power steering advice.

Hi ive seen some power steering threads but nothing really like our problem..... we have an 02 vtr and wen my mrs was out drivin the power steerin just stopped dead......i've tryed a new relay and a second hand pump which i fitted earlyer this evenin but still no power steering.

i bled the system well attempted too. i took the resivoir cap off n moved it from lock to lock as said in the haynes book which released alot of air now the fluid level just rises from just above min to up n over max n down again n keeps doin it from lock to lock.....is that right???

Is there any fuse etc??

I havnt a clue wat to do next so any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot Ryan.

this happened to mine, tried the thing under the steering wheel, in the end got a sparky round and gave him £50 he fixed it, turns out there was a short which had melted some wires.

Power steering went on my Saxo & after replacing the relay it worked again.

Problem is the new relay blew very shortly after.

Any ideas why she's suddenly blowing relays? Does the pump do this if it's on it's way out or could it be some kind of electrical problem?

Anybody have this problem before?

Tks

My old pump just seemed tostop working, got a new 1 fitted and still the same. The fuse had gone by the pump and fitted a new 1 and then turned car over and blew again. Any ideas?
