Default Flatarch 106 - sloooow 16v conversion

Making a start on this after having it nearly a year now and finally managing to get a garage to keep it in, after waiting 6 months for the council to fix the door

Not much space and no electricity, should be fun.

Bought it off eBay last year with just under 19,000 miles and only one elderly lady owner from new, who was getting rid after reversing it into her garage (garaged from new as far as I know) causing damage to the drivers door and front wing.

Didn't get a picture of the mileage when I first got it but

Damage

Non sunroof

Granny spec interior soon to have suede Sparco steering wheel and a Recaro Pole Position ABE with centre fabric re-trimmed to match the OEM trim.

One seat worth more than the car

Paintwork doesn't look too bad after just a quick snowfoam and rinse (not polished or waxed in this pic)

Parts gathered so far;

Saxo vts powerzz + 16v drivers side mount cradle thingy
C2 Vts alloy inlet (unsure whether I will use it)
14" Speedline comp 2's
Bilstein Grp N dampers
Recaro Pole Position ABE
300mm suede Sparco
4 stud front struts + a drum and a disc rear beam

Think I have a thing for cobalt flatarches

why not fix it up and keep it standard? you won't find many with 19k and unless you need the garage space desperately can live in there! sure they're cheap now but eventually someone will want a mint condition povvo spec 106 for some reason

Because racecar

Also because it's a 106, they're horrendous standard.

I like this John, it's good.

My first one was on about 20k when I bought it

I'll be sorting the dents, most likely swap the parts from the other one as I can't see it passing another MOT without lots of cutting and welding.

You're in Alnwick, Matt is Alnwick. You've got a flat arch 106, Matt has a 106. You know Matt, so you should also know not to ask him for help, so potentially this could end well!

I managed to find a matching rear seat on eBay (saved searches really pay off sometimes)

Unpicked all the stitching so I had individual panels and tried to figure out the best way of making some new centre covers for the Recaro.

Chucked the material on to see how it'll look

Started stripping underneath the rear, few minor spots of surface rust but nothing major need to get the rear beam and tank removed then clean and paint. Not decided on silver underneath (maxi car style) or just body colour.

This is really very clean indeed.

But no S1.

Forgot to take some before pics but got the drivers side rear arch cleaned up. Few little spots of rust dotted around the lower edge to sort out but not bad

No electricity in the garage means no proper power tools so going to attack any rust spots with a clean and strip wheel in a cordless drill, Bilt Hamber deox-gel and then 2 coats of Bilt Hamber electrox.

Will be painting the whole of the underneath with Jotamastic 80 epoxy mastic coating. It's designed for marine/offshore applications so should be good enough for a 106.
