1st gen ipad, end of life?
I've been offered a good deal on an ipad 1 and im tempted to get it for the little one's birthday.
I understand the first gen doesnt support ios6 but still works perfectly fine as a tablet anyway. just wondered how this will effect its future length of life with being able to download things, will i not be able to get apps at some point anymore, or is there any way round it? (jailbreaking etc)

What price and new or used?
It will function perfectly fine as you say but you will soon begin to find that apps won't support it. Mainly due to the processor and graphics support that's been gained in the newer versions. Depends if your little one will want to play graphically intense games or not and the latest releases which most likely will only support iOS 6?
Really depends on the bargain price you are getting it for

Jail breaking is legal...installing pay for apps for free is not

I'm still using a first gen iPad. I struggle with apps but thats my own fault for not updating it, I'm still on ios4.
That is the only problem with it though. Day to day stuff on it is still fine, no issues on forums etc.

I'd check how much battery life there actually is left on it.

I can't imagine it being a problem tbh.
Both my Niece and Daughter have Kindle Fire tablets and they aren't all that powerful and the app store is fairly limited but it is more than enough to keep them occupied for a while. TBH all they play is Angry Birds and Temple Run 2 though (currently beating me as well).
