Default Quick question about oil breather

I have an oil breather on my engine but today opened bonnet and loads of oil has sprayed through the breather so have i done something wrong or just need an oil catch tank to catch the oil instead ?

catch tank is better, you cant really do anything wrong when fitting an oil breather so if loads is coming out buy a catch tank
