Nope the 5D was released quite a while after the MKII (which the n is effecively still).
Totally different sensor being FF aswell bla bla bla....
I think ill be nicking it more for some other stuff now im trying to use flash less and less..
Example similar shot with 1D at iso 800
Considering the massive increase in ISO i must say the 5D really is impressive in that dept as ok theres more noise between the two but considering the large increase it shows that the 5D is still quite a stonker in that dept. (9 AF points isnt though)

Which follows on with I really want to try a 5d mkII just to see the improvements there, and dread to think if I had a D3/1dmkIV about how the iso really would perform.

haha thats like my 10d at 200 iso let alone 3200. i have seen some sample pics of the 5dmk2 at 6400 and they are still more than useable.

I saw the first shots of 128,000 from the MKIV - canon had them removed from the site as I suspect there was something up with where they were sourced as the image wasnt any use for anything at all lol.
If only the 5 focused as nicely as my 1 Id be wanting to use one alot.

the 5D is a thing of beauty for high ISO stuff, big fat pixels rock
I think flash has it's place but to be honest the ambient feel to this type of shot looks much better than if you'd used an external light source.
as you say the 5 doesn't focus anything like a 1. which is a shame.
two very different bodies, which is something not many people realise.

Yeah dave, the focusing set up is basically the same as my old 30D.
Which is one thing id like to see if its different with the mkII as its one thing i personally feel is a bit of a bummer on the 5. Espec as I like to use off center focus points alot now, and I found the 5 really wasnt happy (having less cross focus points).
For what is 'old' technology though I had forgotten just how it still can pump out some acceptable stuff at such a high iso.
With the LEDs, its either ambient stuff like this of blast in so much flash to remove the horrible skin colour cast from them

have you thought about a 7d ryan, that apparently has loads of selectable focusing / metering points as well as stuff like built in remote slave for triggering off camera flashes (see the review video). i found a sample pic at 12,800 iso and it seems pretty promising, there is some slight image break up the shadow areas, but this may be due to the image compression as well. i dont know if its better than the 5d but i think this will be my next purchase as compared to the 10d where i cant go about 400iso without it looking shite it will be a big step up. I am also doing more and more video/ special fx based stuff these days so that function might come in usefull. and cropped sensors are always usefull at motorsport events to get a little bit more zoom out of your lens. obviously though different paps have different needs
eos 7d sample pic at 12,800

Nah currently not worried about the 7d tbh....
Im happy with my 1 series and dont plan on going back to a 1.6x crop body, tbh if anything id get a mkIII as soon as the mkiv causes the imminent price drop, that or a 5d MKII.
More zoom - buy better primes
