Default When Gaming Goes To Far...

Not sure if anyone has heard of a PC game called EVE Online. Basically half a million people fly spaceships around a gigantic game for days on end. Here's just a few details to give you an idea of just how big this game is.

"The Eve universe has its own elected council of politicians, its own organically-evolving economy and its own complex and fascinating history of years-long conflicts, uprisings and hostile coups."

This game is literally a second life...

Last year they released an expansion pack that people weren't happy about. Thousands of players flew their spaceships to a huge space station, blew it up (these don't respawn) and cancelled their subscriptions.

The developers were SO concerned, they had the in-game council flown to Iceland in real life to have a meeting about what had happened! It cost them tens of thousands of pounds!

In the end 120!! of the developers were sacked!

Here's another!

"In 2005, one faction hired a guild of assassins to carry out a meticulous assassination of one of the most powerful figures in the Eve universe, Mirial, and steal her wealthy corporation’s assets – worth billions of in-game ISK and over $16,000 in real-life dollars. The hit involved several spies infiltrating the corporation at the highest level and took nearly a year. It was devastating, not just to the target but to everyone that was part of the Ubiqua Seraph corporation, all of whom lost incredibly valuable ships and assets (and even more valuable pride) that had taken them months of work to earn. Mirial’s body was stolen by the assassins, adding a level of personal vindictiveness to this astonishingly devious, huge-scale betrayal."

Is this taking gaming too far?!

I remember my mate trying to get me into World of Warcraft. It never struck a chord with me, but he played it religiously. He told me about this one player who'd died in real life, so all his online friends decided to hold a funeral IN THE WARCRAFT GAME as not all of them could make his real-life funeral. Turns out some folk got wind of it, gatecrashed his warcraft funeral and killed everyone attending.

Being the black-hearted bastard I am, I lol'd for quite some time at that.

My mate plays it- a lot! He has no money whatsoever but finds it to waste on that, rarely comes out the house unless it's for free beer or pizza .

Never heard of this one, heard of second life though, quite creepy, there's a lad that makes a living by designing in game beds that allow you to have sex.

My mate and I went on that Second Life for a few days, just bamming people up and being general cunts. Couldnt see the appeal of it if you play it seriously.

Lol EVE is abit mad i know a few people who play it who have been playing it for years and years and there is absolutly no end to it.

One gamer actually killed another gamer in real life because of some incident on the game!

Mind you i dont see how alot of people on this forum can say 'they cant have a real life' as plenty of people spend what seems to be 24/7 on here its no different to spending it on a game.
