Default Turbo or supercharger

What's everyone's choice one or the other been told superchargers are cheaper and give a higher power gain.

I'd say its not cheap if you build from new, my last turbo build was good power and all completely built for under 2k. Granted if I'd sourced everything new it'd of cost over 4.5-5k but it shows what can be done with a scope about.

I prefer turbos mainly for the unruliness of them especially in the little cars but I do like the idea of superchargers and being able to get the power you want as and when.

Was talking to a local tuning company that have done cars that has featured in French car mags etc and they do kits for a saxo, and they said the supercharger kit was cheaper and more power output. They don't only add a turbo on it tho they strengthen the engine and change the pistons etc

Turbo for me, I'm addicted to turbos like soo many out there.
I'd say a rotrex kit would be much quicker to turn around and would be kinder on the gearbox.

I prefer turbo, parts can be sourced relatively cheap second hand, and can be done by yourself to save money.

both give excellent gains.

Under the gmc motorsport affiliate section there is a dedicated turbovs supercharger boost discussion thread. Very well worth a read even for the debate lol...

the first question should be HOW MUCH power do you want .
for ultimate bhp a turbo can give more BHP as the boost level is only limted by the choice of turbo unit .
a rotrex s/c can never give more than 1.1-1.3 bar of boost .
the costs --for high boost you need same internal engine mods on both ,ecu requirements etc are similar, though s/c is simpler to map
if comparing new prices s/c will be cheaper + much simpler to fit ,and easier to take off again should you need to .
no need to interfer with oil system or sump and no water cooling system to make .
maybe the number of s/h DIY turbo systems that always seem to be for sale is an indication of how wel some of these systems turn out ?
for normal road use i would not suggest much more than 200/220 bhp@wheels
you will need forged pistons for this power for either for a relaible fit + forget car

fitting s/c is very simple and anybody competent enough to do an engine comversion would have no problems fitting a s/c conversion quite quickly with no need for acess to welding equipment etc
