Ebay BMC replica
Would love a BMC CDA air filter but cant afford the price of one, found this on ebay would it be a good affordable version? Of course I would obviously through the stupid superturbo charger fan straight in the bin or at some chav.

I may have something like this for sale in the week on a car I'm getting, I've not looked at it properly but it looks similar to the one in the link.

BMCs don't make any induction noise really, those do!
I had one once on a saxo i bought, it sounded great tbh, nothing wrong with it.
Inside it is the same crummy little cone filter as the race land filters etc.
Perfect for a saxo imo, do away with the crappy fan thing though.

Same again really mate there fine, I used one on mine for a while (not sure what the weird fan is though it didn't have that!) Made 151hp with cams so isn't really restrictive in anyway.

make sure the filter is oiled though, the one bought and subsequently binned didnt have any oil on the filter so it wasnt going to be filtering much crap out!

Thought it would cost a lot more if it was real carbon, if it is that a bargain

It's plastic carbon effect. The filters in these are cheap as is the whole package really but it'd do

As said before, they're okay in terms of looking better and performance wise they arent very restrictive which is obviously good.
The thing with the cheap filters is that the actual filtration properties probably arent that great.

Is it a good idea to give a coat of oil to the filter then as said above to help it catch particles? Surely its not too bad anyway at filtering

Yes go pick up a light oil designed for the job, k and n do one and piper cross. The filter medium such as gauze or foam is only there to hold the oil which is keeping small particles out of the engine

I've seen quite a few BMC sell quite cheap recently seem to be selling for way cheaper than they used to.
At one point seemed to be selling for around 100 but now I've seen them go around 50 - 80.

I haven't been able to find one, but if theyre quite and the ebay ones make a bit of noise I would rather the ebay one. Im not building a performance track saxo just something to my own taste

If it's the noise your after and not performance you might be better of with an open filter not an enclosed one.

Yeah I thought that, but I prefer the look of an enclosed otherwise unless it can look a bit of a halfords job unless done right of course
