Default 106 Gti rev counter wiring

Finally managed to get my engine fired up for the first time but my son noticed that the Rev counter isn’t working, the wiring loom was modified by spoox motorsport (all unnecessary crap removed) a few years ago prior to me getting the car, last night my son and I changed the instrument cluster for a spare I have in the garage but still no luck I then noticed that on the yellow instrument cluster plug, connection No 1 is what I believe to be the rev counter (brown wire) has been cut and there’s no trace of the other half of the wire anywhere. Does anyone know how how to rewire the Rev counter? I can solder a the cable on the back of the plug as there’s enough wire but I can’t figure out where it should be wired into

Speedo is direct from the ECU, via the chassis/body plug in the wing.
Check and see if the cable is present, from the ECU to the chassis plug - if you still have it.

Use this thread, to locate the wire in the plug.

Blooming marvellous……I’ll split the chassis plug tomorrow and have a look for the Rev counter wires, hopefully I’ll be able to find it and run a new wire to the back of the dash. Thanks.

Top info sri_130 found the chassis plug pin and stripped approx 75mm of insulation only to find the cut wire, I have an old loom that I’ve cut a long piece of the same 429 brown wire and twisted the end to chassis plug end then touched onto the dash end of the cut wire and hey presto!! The rev counter worked

Bit odd that they cut that wire.

Who did you say modified the loom???

I was told it was modified by Spoox racing development, when I bought the shell the loom and dash came with it, in addition I can’t seem to find the diagnostic port either (I’m sure you told me where it should be in a previous thread)

Very odd

diagnostic port is right next to the fuse box on a 106 loom. Depending on spec it's either OBD style plug or the big brown Peugeot connector.

I think this loom you have has had some history since Spoox dealt with it, if they even did at all. At least you've a rev counter now!

You could get an OBD plug and wire it yourself, you'll know from the links which 2 wires you need, it's dead straight forward.

As you mentioned, I’m only going on what the seller said. It may not even have been done by them in the first place but other than the Rev counter and brown plug it looked like a pretty good job TBF.

I actually have a spare full donor loom that I used for extending all the ECU wiring so I might just try and wire one in as per the above link. As mine is a 1998 I’m sure it would be the brown plug and not OBD.
