Ok so getting my iPhone soon but im on Vodafone and its locked to o2 :o argghhh!

Is it a faf on getting it unlocked?

You can get it unlocked online or in some shops for a few quid, just be wary of where you get it unlocked

Not sure if they are legally meant to be unlocked, otherwise they wouldn't be locked in the first place. Im not sure if your fone can get fucked but id feel a bit weird with someone else knowing all your info about your fone especially if its an iPhone, id go to a shop and ask

Simos is unlocked I believe, I got one on o2 cos I think they are the best. Mines Jailbroken, its defficult to explain with out actually showing you.

The iPhone is only available on the o2 network, any others have already been unlocked

first of all which iphone is it?

If its a 2G or 3G yes you can unlock it using Redsn0w and Ultrasn0w from Dev team.

Currently the 3GS cannot be unlocked via soft unlock, i dont know if these turbosim things and related sims work.

Unlock is releasing an Iphone from its official carrier 02 to allow it to work on anyone elses i.e. tmobile, vodaphone etc...

Jailbreaking allows you to install third party applications that are not authorised by apple as well as other funky things.

Yes as Scott said, you need to jailbreak the phone first then run cydia, add the ultrasn0w source and install it, put in your sim and your good to go

I have a package with Vodafone that lets me access the internet for an unlimited time a month (fair usage applies obvisouly lol) if this is what you mean?

So id have to run Cydia first then Ultrasn0w?

If the iphone is on 3.0 assuming its a 3g? the use redsnow to jailbreak which will install cydia and or icy .

the run ultrasnow from the cydia apps list and the bandbase will be unlocked .

ive personally never unlocked the baseband as i simplely dont need to.

but its just as simple as that , i could write i guide up for you if you like ?

im not sure its technically illegal?

put into youtube redsn0w unlock and you will get plenty of vids with all the links in the info bit at the side

Essentially you need to download:

3.0 firmware for your version of iphone
bootloader 3.9
bootloader 4.1 (i think im doing this off the top of my head)
redsn0w

Open itunes, plug in iphone, press and hold shift/control (cant remember which one) then click restore, select your downloaded firmware. Let it do its thing.

Once finished leave the iphone plugged into the usb and turn it off. It must have been on then switched off while connected to the computer. Start up redsn0w. Select the firmware, select the bootloaders. Tell it to install cydia and NOT icy (icy screwed mine and a few others it may have been fixed though but i would leave it). Follow the on screen instructions to put into DFU mode. Let it do its thing.

Start iphone, turn off 3G in settings, open cydia, add the ultrasn0w source if it hasnt already been added (get it from dev team site cant remember it) install Ultrasn0w, restart phone.

Done. All off the top of my head

im into my phones as i now have a stake in i buy phones.

the 3g took a long time to crack (about a month), basically when the 3gs was launched my tech man in the know had the resources for it to be cracked within hours, to be jailbroken etc.
