there are two types of hubs as the same as driveshafts, if you have tapered driveshafts you should have tapered hubs aswell. and flat seat hubs for flat seat driveshafts. so two different types guys

Sorry if im being blind or anything but is the tappered bit on gearbox side or hubside? My 1.4 shafts are on a 2000 mk2 shell with single plug ecu none crossover loom. So would be confusing to know which shaft i need.

3 stud models have their own special tapered shaft.
if it's 4 stud, it'll be flat.
UNLESS it's had a different wheel bearing fitted.
Also, a tapered bearing is obviously got a taper.
the hole in a straight shaft accepting bearing is flat. like a proper cylinder.

The bearing itself isnt tapered the hub is
The bearing has a larger inner diameter to accomodate the hub having a taper

From the front of the flange tho there is one that is about 10mm thick all the way round and the other is about the same but has cut outs reduceing the thickness inbetween the tapped holes .
is the consistant size a later tappered hub

Tapered vs non Tapered driveshafts`
It's safe to say a 2001 car will. My 1999 car has tapered mk2 shafts so the cross over period was the mk1 silvertop 90bhp models I reckon . Hub nut tells you all you need to know anyway big one is tapered shaft

BASICALLY
If you have a 3 plug ECU, you've got tapered gear standard.
If it's single plug, it's non taper.
If you've got 3 stud, then you have your own unique tapered shaft and hub special regardless of year.

It's not the standard hubs then (or engine?) :suspicious:
there are "3" phases, not 2.
easier to explain with 106's. There's mk1, mk2 and mk3.
mk2 and 3 are S2's. mk3 changes to ECU plug, hubs, digi dash etc.
