Thanks mate.

Small update...

We took the car to an exhaust specialist a few weeks ago to have a centre silencer added to the exhaust system. Unfortunately that never happened as the guys at the exhaust place noticed our manifold was cracked. So the car came home with no centre silencer.

After considering all our options, we decided to invest in a better quality manifold made buy a more reputable company. In the end we bought a 4-1 Stainless piper manifold.

At £343 delivered, it was a bargain from GMC....

This will get wrapped and painted just like the last one.

What made you choose a 4-1 over 4-2-1?

I'll just be using some cheap stuff off eBay we've had sitting around in the garage.

The cost mainly, a supersprint 4-2-1 is about £100 more.

Right then, it been a while.

Few small updates since last time....

To go with our nice new manifold I ordered some exhaust wrap and high temp paint....

We had more than enough paint, so even though the manifold is stainless, I gave it a quick coat of paint first before wrapping it....

Then wrapped and painted the manifold again (no pics).

We then removed the old manifold.

There was a slight crack in it...

Removed the lambda sensor...

Then we got the new manifold all fitted up with a fresh gasket, new high temp k-nuts and a genuine gearbox/lower manifold mount...

All fired up...

Whilst changing the manifold, we noticed a slight weep from one of the coolant hoses and that another was split (but not leaking).

Considering how old they were, we decided to change the whole lot for some new silicone hoses.

We ordered a top, bottom and heater bypass hose from Baker BM...

Whilst we were changing the hoses over, I decided I wanted a decent place to drain the coolant from instead of pulling a hose off and the coolant going everywhere.

I bought a temp sensor adaptor off eBay and machined it to accept an M12 bung...

I can then just cut the new lower hose and add that in. This gives us a proper place to drain the coolant from.

I also ordered some decent hose clips...

We also decided to treat ourselves to a quick release steering wheel boss. Rather than buy cheap, buy twice, we bit the bullet and bought a Krontec boss. They're a little pricey but they don't develop play like the spline type bosses...

I also treated myself to a new go pro...

Next up was to get the hoses changed, we started to remove the old hoses and it became clear why the old top hose was leaking...

The split heater hose...

We bought a new thermostat housing outlet and got all the hoses changed over.

We also replaced the cv boot we split at Cadwell.

Before...

After...

Tidied up the inside a bit with some grip tape on the floors...

Also fitted the krontec quick release...

Makes it SO much easier to get in and out of.

I've also ran a bit of donkey dick from the fog lights to help cool the brakes...

It's a bit pikey at the minute, but if it works I'll tidy it up over winter.

Finally, pimped my helmet out with some go pro mounts and tidied up the intercom lead...

That's it for now. Got Blyton park booked on the 24th September and Silverstone GP booked on the 1st November.

Thanks mate. Yeah, we're pretty happy with the spec of the car now.

Haha, thanks mate.

Small update.

Had a cracking day at Blyton a couple of weeks ago. Car ran fine all day and the weather was perfect.

Few pics from the day...

and a couple of vids...

https://youtu.be/y93FPBvEAP8

https://youtu.be/vpMJeLJo9gQ

Since our last outing at Blyton (about a year ago), the biggest changes we had made to the car were the tyres and the rack. The tyres are a massive improvement and we seem to be able to carry a lot more speed through the corners. The rack was the biggest improvement though.

Before...

After...

Money well spent I think.

After Blyton we got the car back in the garage and up on axle stands to give it a good check over. Everything was fine a part from a leaky master cylinder reservoir that we replaced with a used one we had in the garage. All ready for Silverstone at the start of November.

A couple of little winter jobs we have lined up. We've bought a secondhand set of poly windows...

As you can see from the pics they are in need of a bit of TLC. I've given it a go on one of the rears and they come up well...

Also made up a couple of sets of steering column spacers....

The steering wheel quick release has spaced the steering wheel out a bit which has made it higher. We just need to space the column down a bit the bring it back to where it was.

That's it for now.

Right then, small update...

Just before Silverstone I made a new GoPro mount. Previously I had been using a long plastic arm I had from a kit of mounts. The camera angle was good but the mount vibrated on track. This is what I cam up with...

I made it a bit longer than needed so I can have a play with the height in the car and then cut it down after.

Tools packed...

I headed to a foggy Silverstone to meet my dad and brother...

The fog delayed the start for over 1 1/2 hours but circuit days were great and cancelled lunch to gain some of the lost time back.

Track conditions varied from greasy to wet all day. Only managed 2 dryish laps before it rained. The cloud didn't lift all day...

Few laps on a greasy circuit...

https://youtu.be/5P844YCrssM

Which resulted in this...

https://youtu.be/7NFq9UAMBMg

All in all it was a great day. Track conditions weren't ideal but it was still great fun. Would definitely do Silverstone GP again.

Camera mount worked well. No vibration and gave a great camera angle.

Before...

After...

I also turned spot meter on which helped with the light.

Now that I was happy with the camera angle, I cut down the mount to a more suitable size and capped off the end...

Next up, we ordered one of these...

Ordered from CCF http://ccf-fibreglass.co.uk and arrived within a week. They do quite a few parts for the saxo/106 as well as Clios, minis, etc. Can't go wrong at £140.

So before painting we got it all mocked up...

The plan was to use a pair of aero catches to hold it down but locating the pins in a suitable place was going to be a bit tricky. As the the boot came with nut insert for the standard catch, we decided to go with that.

We just had to make up a template and cut all the standard holes for the number plate light, lock and wiring. Now the boot closes and locks like the standard one. This cut out the hassle of mounting the aero catches but also means we can still secure the car when needed.

A small amount of sanding a filling was required and the boot is now ready for paint.

Couple more updates....

We've also changed the gearbox. Only done 700 miles but we had a couple of litres in the garage and thought it would be nice to change it.

No sure what gearbox oil is meant to look like after 700miles...

Something we had planned on doing for a while was to cut the slam panel and free up a bit of space in front of the intake...

Air filter can be seen through the grill now...

Just need to buy a new silicone 90 and it's all done

We've also moved our fire extinguisher from between the seats to in front of the passenger seat...

The pin kept getting knocked out at Silverstone when adjusting the harnesses. Should be a bit safer now.

Finally, we removed all the glass ready for the plastic windows...

Nice little bit of weight saving...

That's it for now.

One of my favourites on here. It's not as mental as 90% of the projects but it's done to such a high standard. Your tool carry case is awesome too, You've me looking on ebay for a similar flight case.

Few niggly questions: How much exhaust wrap did you go through 5 or 10m and what manifold nuts did you use? They look much better than my brass nuts.

Thanks mate.

Have a search on eBay for a GT Line tool box, that's what it is. I'm currently pimping it out some more, I'll post up some pics when I'm finished.

Think it was a 15m roll.

Not sure where the k-nuts are from. I got them through work. If you're really interested I could find out. Think they're nearly £10 each though.

Thanks mate. Every little helps.

Small update with what we've got up to over the last few months...

We got the boot back from the painters...

Then got it all fitted up...

Standard number plate light...

All the wiring ran in the standard place...

High level brake light...

Standard lock...

Just need to bond in a poly rear screen and it's done.

Next up was the centre of the dash. Now that we don't run a heater and the electric windows have gone, I decided to tidy up the dash a bit.

Started by removing the dash centre and stripping it down...

Then started to blank all the holes up...

That's it for now.

Looks great Chris! Like how the tailgate is looking standard.

Do I remember you having the electric windows in the radio blank before?

Cheers mate.

Yeah I like the standard look too. Never really been a fan of mis-matched panels or even bare carbon panels.

Yeah the switches were next to the master switch...

Tidies the dash up a bit.

Looks great!

I've just finished my radio blank and done the same, but where you had the master switch I'm having an LED voltage meter. I'm thinking of having the master switch where the ashtray is.

Keep up the good work tho! I absolutely love this build!
