Been looking through the brochures again

Im REALLY liking the Canon 60mm and 100mm macro lens, with USM. But they are expensive!

The Sigma macro gets great reviews, except for it being noisy when focussing and issues with it hunting and taking too long sometimes to step back to focus point.

But, maybe the Sigma is the sensible option to see if macro is what im into.

I hate these sensible moments It's much more fun just going and buying stuff

I've been thinking about this aswell...

Canon 100mm lens: best lens but (too) expensive.
Canon 60mm: wouldn't get that as it's not 1:1, only 60mm and it's an ef-s lens (which means it'll not fit the future full frame DSLR's).

Sigma: sensible option. Great pics and not too expensive. Downside: only 50mm, so you have to get quite close to the subject, which could scare insects

Tamron: Great lens, 90mm, 1:1, etc. Everything you want but more expensive than the Sigma.

So the Tamron is better than the Sigma, but also more expensive. If you're prepared to spend that, then I would get the Tamron. If not (and I can immagine that), then get the Sigma. Both Canons are too expensive for what they offer IMO.

The Tamron is listed in this Jessops brochure as £369.99 The SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1.

You need to find a different shop!

The Tamron is € 388,- over here.. what is that, ~ 270 pounds?

The sigma is € 259,- over here btw.

This is quite an interesting read BTW.
Also look what it says way down: "I got my Tamron for £259 from a UK retailer almost a year ago. Since then, prices have come down another £10 - £20)"

Something I always do when taking landscape pictures is underexpose them by 1 stop - especially on a sunny day as the dark blue sky stands out better (I severely hope you got a polarising filter dude!)

I could be having a blonde moment... but how the hell do you set this up or install it?

Is it a photoshop plugin? If so, where do I load it up in photoshop?

Not got a polarising filter yet Mike... I just picked up a UV for protection and a +4 for budget closeup work

Was talking about polarising filters at lunchtime though

You thick bastard

It's a java script. You have to put it in the PS folder where the other scripts are (do a search for *.jsx files). Then execute: file->scripts. You can alter the ini file to display "©", etc.

Alternatively you can try this programm: click!

I prefer this actually, but the page is in Dutch, though I think you can choose English in the programm. Just give it a go!

Found it now... I am still using PS7, which doesnt have the scripts function

I installed CS months ago too, but have not yet switched to using it... I see the scripts option now.

Thanks

You need CS2 anyway

PS is very usefull in digital photography.
Digital camera's tend to take unsharp pics (that's because of the way they're constructed). Digital compact camera's modify pics in camera so you only have to upload them to your computer and you're done. With DSLR's you have to do that yourself. Ad unsharp mask, play with levels, colours, saturation, etc. It's all part of the fun!
btw it's not possible to make a bad pic good, or an unsharp pic sharp.. but it is to make a good pic better.
And it's not cheating ether.. Back in the days of analogue pics, people used darkrooms.. think of PS as a digital darkroom.

I shall have to look if my photoshop is CS or CS2

I've been resisting changing due to all of the actions I have setup in PS7 for sax-p. No doubt they wont all convert across properly... I know they didnt when moving from PS4

Just try it... make a copy of the actions and put then in the CS2 actions folder. Then try if they work.
CS is better as it also supports RAW files.
