Default Alternator Wring

Hi,

Can anyone help with this on my 2003 vts,

my old faulty alternator had a big lug fitting and a little 2 pin plug with a yellow wire and a pink wire in it

my replacement alternator has the big lug and a little lug. for some reason, mainly hit and hope based on google I have bombed off the pinkish wire and put a small lug on the yellow wire for connection to my new alternator when I get another.

I believe this is for the battery charge light?
but

a: have I done it right
b: if I have will this lose any functionality with one wire not used?

as it happens this alternator needs replacing because it arrived to me damaged but im assuming most available have only the two lugs and not the plug, based on the few I have seen for sale

thanks

I cut the 2-pin connector off and replaced with a o ring terminal, That worked as it should for 10'000s of miles.. Did get the battery light sometimes in high revs tho! But started / worked as normal
