Default Best gearbox for VTR

Hi all,

My gearbox has done over 120,000 and is well on its way out along with the clutch.

I've read many threads on the various gearboxes, as u cant buy a new or reconned vtr box anymore all i simply want to know is this...

1 which gearbox is the best replacement for the vtr? Obviously it would be a vtr box though ive lost count the amount of people who have warned me they are notoriously weak.

2 If i get my current gearbox reconned by a specialist will it be worth the money ie feel similar to when it was new?

3. Just want the best solution to replacing my knackered gb

Thankyou

Any really. The VTR box is so long that anything else will be an improvement.

Ive just refurbed my Rallye box and you can dump quite a lot of money into them in terms of parts. Feels superb, but it depends if you feel like throwing £300+ at a gearbox whether you fancy doing that.

Nice one mate thanks for reply. Ill probably look into getting current one reconned then.

My clutch is very high anyway so i need to replace that too, apart from the gear stick itself been very loose an wobbly ( think knacked linkages is reason for this), quite often when i attempt to change gear it just bounces into neutral and i have to dip clutch and find gear again.
Any idea whether this could be clutch problem or most likely box?

Look up the "guide to removing gearstick play" on here. Theres agood chance your inability to get gears correctly is clutch related though, especially if the clutch is already pretty high.

Sounds like the gear selector ball's worn, roll pins worn or your linkages are scrap.
