you mean, redex, i didnt feel or notice much difference when i used it, but maybe my car didnt need it. Might be worth putting some in anyway, just to give it a clean

Fuel additives don't work to be honest, if anything they don't make them quicker. How far you been leaving it until filling up once the light has come on?

a tenner normally does about 100 to 110 mile in my tank - thats with a mixture of motorway and rural driving...

Well when the warning light comes on, you would have around 30-40 miles left in the tank. I think that is right.

You can't say whether that is normal economy or not. As we don't know how much petrol you're getting for a tenner and the light can come on with different amounts left all the time.

You need to fill your car up, reset your trip. Then next time you put petrol in, fill it up again, and see how many litres goes in.

You can then work out your TRUE mpg.

I used to get 380/390 miles out of my 1.1i before the light comes on, I now get 330/340.

Better not to run it to the light as your starting the run the risk of running out! I remember I always ran my 106 in the light though, fiver of fuel a week whether it needed it or not lol

Maybe your fuel prices have gone up a bit as they've gone up at the pumps?

And my 1.1 doesn't seem to care how I drive it. It always uses roughly the same amount of fuel.

sounds fine tbh, just dont rag the engine when its cold as that uses loads, and ull get alot more milage on motorway trips than town driving, and u have more than 8miles lol when the light comes on!

buy a vts then laugh at how many miles u dont get to £10

without knowing the full facts or using a particularly accurate method of analysing the fuel consumption. I'd say that seems about right to be honest. There's no point in repeating what is said but a recap of the important things

using the Fuel warning light between fill ups, is inaccurate as the needle is highly sensitive to hill gradients, so therefore it might come on when you have 4 litres left, it might come on when you have 7 litres left, you just don't know.

mr_p summed up how to do it properly, but you must fill it to the brim to have even an even usable figure.

5 litres is the official amount dude! cleaning the idle control value won't do anything because when you're driving the engine isn't at idle... You'd be much better off getting the car FULLY serviced, new filter (oil, air, fuel), put in the best oil you can afford - fully synthetic 5w-40, replace spark plugs etc. That'll see some gains as well as more power.

Driving aggressively will EAT the fuel, especially when the engine is cold, let the engine warm up before giving it some, but if you want to save fuel don't drive aggressively at all.
