Default Saxo vtr central locking.

Hi guys I have a saxo vtr phase 2 year 2002.

I got this in 2010 and it's never had a fob. Always had to use the key.

I'm selling it soon and it will be better with a fob.

How can I tell if the car ever had a fob? We're some saxos built without?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there. Your car should have come with a fob as far as I know. My 2000 VTS has it certainly (weirdly I didn't get a fob either, but I found the circuit board lying in the ashtray complete with broken buttons which I was able to repair and fit into a new housing).

On older cars, you would be able to tell by the fact that there would be an infra red receiver mounted in the roof, next to the position of the aerial, however your car would be an RF keyfob and so it will just be an aerial built into the system and will be hidden (under the dash somewhere I believe).

I think you can safely assume it would have come with a fob, however if you don't have one then I think you are in the hands of a dealer or some other company that can encode them to the car. I'm not sure if it is possible to buy a circuit board and fob online and pair it up yourself using Lexia - you can use Lexia to code a key (i.e. the immobiliser chip) to the immobiliser ECU, if you have your key code card (to my amazement my car came with that in the handbook) but I am not sure if you can use this function in Lexia to code an RF key fob to the car, maybe someone else could comment on that.

I have found a box behind the dash which is definitely to do with the central locking. I wonder if I were to get a new central locking key with circuit board in would it work. Is it as simple as taking my transponder out of my key.

I literally just have a normal key with no buttons etc.

just buying a circuit board from ebay etc, will not work - i.e. the circuit board will not open the car and you can't just pair it up with a sequence of button presses like you perhaps could with the older infra red system.

You either need to have Lexia (I am not sure if Lexia can do this) and probably a code from the key code card for the car, or you would need to have a dealer pair the circuit board for you, perhaps there are other 3rd parties who can do this, I don't know.

Id pay something like £100 for Toad or similar, will operate the cemtral locking for you but also helps stop the car going walkies. You can program it to do remote start and stuff too.

Yup, aftermarket is probably your best bet.
