To explain this more, Newer Intel based Mac computers are able to Run Mac OS and also XP or Vista at the same time. When you boot up you just select which you want to boot up.
With msn messenger you can get the official MSN Messenger for Mac, however this is limited in features, no webcam support for example. But there are many third party MSN messenger programs which support webcam.
Anymore apple questions just ask, been a user all my life.

either an external CD/DVD drive, or you can install a program onto any wireless enabled PC or mac, and put the disc in there, and install it to the macbook air wirelessly..

The idea is that nowadays you can download most of your software. But if you really need a Optical Drive, apple have brought out an external USB powered Superdrive (DVD RW).
And if you dont want to buy that, you can use a piece of software which you can put the disk into another Mac or PC and access the data over your wireless network.
Pretty clever huh...

i sence another apple lover in the air???
Yeah as stated they bought out the Air for it to be the most protable but yet fully functional notebook,
So DVD's now you can rent on apple tv take 2 (without even need a PC) so that gets rid of DVD drives...
Installing software, now you can put a Mac disk inot a PC, or a mac and have a small piece of software on that mac/pc and access it from your macbook air
backup- cd's OS X Leopard has something called time machine which backs all your stuff up to an externam source so theres no need for laods of CD/DVD back-ups, they have also bought out time capsule which can be used for your macbook air wirelees to back up to the externam source.
Last is burning CD's well everyone now vertually has an iPod/iPhone or MP3 player there for no need for CD's most cars have AUX inputs so you can use them
THerefore theres no real need for a CD drive, but like mentioned if you want one, tis a superdrive and its 99USD!!
The whole idea is to go wireless, and they have achieved thath!
On the side anyone noticed the SMS problem with the new iPhone update? When i recive a contact it mixes all my sent messages (green) and recieved (white) up??

Used macs all my life so yep. Tempted to get the MBA. Perfect for me when im on the road (on tour).
all the people at the moment who are saying how ridiculously expensive it is and how nobody wants a thin lightweight machine. Just wait till 2years time when all laptops are like that and apple will have been the first.
Its like the iPod, i remember everyone saying, WHO ON EARTH would want to carry 1000songs around with them what a stupid idea the iPod is, no one will buy it.
On the topic of price for the MBA, compare the price of this to the Sony TZ series of laptops (the MBA's closest competitor) The lowest spec TZ (which is not as near as fast as the MBA is starts at £1299, with the nearest spec TZ at £1599.
Whereas the MBA starts at £1199.

Apple were not the first though Toshiba had a similar product out in 2002.
The more i look at this its just another fashion icon from Apple with no real use.
Its thin but who wants a thin notebook? Business want small notebooks that are light, not thin versions of big notebooks. The connectivity ports are pretty limiting though.
Although its still a sexy product its a bit in limbo IMO

Therefore if peopel want small laptops not thin the vouch for the MacBook/Pro whats that now its like £700, but the MacBook Air is as they stae in the keynote, for traveling and stuff, were you dont want to carry about a bulky laptop etc, so if thats not what you want it for then dont get one, get a MAcBook/Pro

you miss my point. Its a misfit product there are already smaller laptops that do and have much more. IF you want ultimate small then the asus EEE thing or there is a plethora or 12" notebooks with optical and more connectivity ports.
Just an observation in now way am i a mac or windows (pah) fan boy

Its thin and only 13" too, weighs like 1kg. Toshiba just dont have the weight Apple do when they want to start a new trend.
I can see this being popular for the business market there seems to be huge demand for daft small laptops but i need a portable desktop style laptop, couldnt go lower than 15" and certainly couldnt take the performance cut to be able to use one of these.
Rebranding old concepts FTW, we are in the carbon footprint era afterall.

Toshiba owns the mac on weight:
http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/Toshiba-...ptop-1-nd2.htm
and this was 6 years ago, Air is 1.36kg
This might have been more popular in the business market 4 years ago. Now people can get smaller with more in it particularly the optical drive.
Also once all the leads more the mini dvi, plus external optical, power brick, port rep of some kind are tagged on its not such a light weight option...

You cant really compare the Toshiba really, That's like half the speed, using old technology. 256mb RAM for example. This isn't just a battle for who is the thinnest, its who has the more complete package to suit the travelling businessman type market.
Either way, we will see what happens with this product.

Bare in mind the Toshiba is 6 years old & the mac isnt out yet, i'd say Toshiba wins this round, if only they had put a glowing apple on the back of it & given it a cooler name than Portege... We might all have ToshPods in our pockets now
I do love apples innovation & they get the aesthetics bang on, but im not about to have the the wool pulled over my eyes (and coin from my pocket) everytime they release something "new".
If Logitech were in the laptops & gadgets market, they would give Apple a run for their money!
