I just weird mine up to the ignition wire. Only a 5 min job. Iirc itd the big red wire coming from the key slot.
Just shave the wire then solder the volt gauge wire onto it or twist and tape.
Then just find an earth.

But you could tap into the head unit power cable . May not be as accurate reading

The earth is Green at the back of the stereo.

You should get the same reading there as you would at the ignition switch.

I think red is the switched feed. I seem to remember swapping red and yellow wires when installing my HU.

Use any guage you like, volt meters draw next to no current.

8 core would do the job

Just done the job,can confirm that the grey wires are the permanent feed so the red ones are the switched ones.

Sorry for the wrong info but using the red on mine didn't work,i connected it to the yellow/green for the ground and to the bigger grey wire for the switched feed, took a pic of the 2 wires i used:

Black --- Yellow,Green wire
Red --- Grey wire

Again,sorry for the misleading information.
