Default Meguair's Products Help

Hey,

This is my first post and question.

My Saxo's paint is in need of a lot of TLC. There is lots of swirl marks, tar, minor scratches, etc.

I've been researching good products to use to bring out the best in my paintwork. Meguair's seem to be up there, I was wondering if anyone knew any other good products.

I am very keen to use the Meguair's Ultimate Compound due the is ability to remove deep swirls in the paint.

Does anyone know any alternatives that are better?

Any helps is appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Elliott.

Hi - welcome to the forum

Are you planning to machine polish or go by hand?

By experience Ive found nothing matches machine polishing for speed or finish. That said, Ive seen some decent results with hand polishes but itll take a fair while to get the same standard as machining.

I machined the mrs 106, and this is a pic of the wing. You may be able to spot the 50/50...

I will definitely machine polish. I would no way attempt to compound a car by hand. I'm sure I would screw it up if I did.

Nice work on the paint by the way.

Sweets, cheers. I will definitely look these products up.

Does anyone know of a thread they could link me about compounding cars? This will save me starting a whole new thread when the answers may already be out there.

Cheers.

I'm on my phone so,

Meguairs ultimate compound isn't going to be removing deep stuff.

Menzerna polishes are good
3M
& Propper Meguiars compounds are good

Ultimate compound is ok but I don't rate it and wouldn't use it on a propper detail, I have a bottle and would only use it on quick top up details.

My last order;

Creates a lot of dust though but obviously after compounding ect you wash the car down to remove oils, residues ect.

Deep swirls or deep scratches btw? swirls don't really get deep they're more like light surface scratches. Deep is most likely to be actual scratches and that to me would suggest you may need to wet sand and refine.

If however the scratches are below the lacquer they cannot be simply polished out they will need to be (depending on how deep) painted or re-lacquered, flat polished.

Hope this helps anyone care to add feel free

This is exactly the type of reply I was looking for. Cheers.

Looked into the 3M stuff and all I hear is great things. Think I've found the compound to restore my paint.
In answer to your question, it had loads of swirl and a few scratches.
