Default Gearbox confusion

Pretty much everything I've read suggests that any saxo MA gearbox will fit any model and work.
BUT I've also seen a statement that says "Gearboxes with serial nos. 20 CE xx and 20 CD xx are not interchangeable with gearboxes with serial nos. 20 CF xx and 20 CN xx."

Does anybody know why that is?
Thanks.

Any MA box will fit. Any MA box will work.

The only difference is the ratios and Diff's.

Thanks for confirming that. So I should be safe with any VTR box as a replacement. I can't even see the code on mine to confirm what it is, just going by the RPO I'm assuming it's the later type
