just stick it on a long exposure and get funky with a torch mate, the longer the exposure the more time you will have to draw and you will be 'diluted' by ambient light so the chance of producing 'ghosts' as you work should be reduced.

just make the shutter speed very slow....
ill have a go in abit... cheers

the lower the ISO then you can achieve longer shutter speeds, also it will reduce noise in the image so i would recommend putting it as low as possible.
i would recommend shooting on something like f16 rather than f4,to give a good depth of field to help make the the torch lines more likely to be in focus, due to increase the size of the focal point.
like with anything though you will have to fiddle a bit for the environment you are shooting in, if the background is really bright then you will needs a much shorter shutter speed to drop the apperture down to stop it being over exposed and hiding the light trails

Did you let it shoot at the car for a few seconds before you did the torch lines James? How can you tell what you are writing? I had a very quick go in my room last night although i was on top of the camera it just looked like mumble jumble lol.

finally got to have a go myself...
dont have a tripod yet, so had to rest my camera on a bin
but am really chuffed with the results....
the second image is a bus going past...
