Know what you mean about football being your life, in the army its all i do and before that it was the good old Aldershot Town reserves!
Ive done a broken ankle and ruptured my Anterior Cruciate Ligament, if im honest mate i think you should get a 2nd opinion or 3rd because if you successfully rehabilitate it and strengthen everything around it then you stand a chance but you might need to be willing to put the work in..
Have faith brother.

The doctor said it's a serious case of the lateral ligaments.

Ouch, isnt that the connecting bone between the femur and the head of the fibula?..my mate shattered his in Afghan!
There must be a way they can give it some stability and surgery will be the possible answer?

Just got back from the doctors, he said that it is possible for me to strengthen my ankle, but wont be as strong as it was, i need to keep it bandaged tightly so its secure when training, so im going to the gym now to do several exercises the doctor advised me to do.

I had that with my knee mate, just dont over do it...strengthen it and keep at it for a good few months, then progressively do the muscles around it!

Bad news mate.
I remember pulling my hammie and being out for 2 months but your injury seems a lot worse. Hope you can recover. Can't picture my life without football!

Thanks was speaking to my coach earlier today, he said my spot will remain there until i recover if i want it to be. He knows it will take a while but he feels i have the determination and the love for the game enough to get through this. I really hope he is right.

I play semi pro too in the ridgeons premier league, first game of the season did my ankle tore ligaments etc, it healed in 3 weeks with really good physio icing on off elavated and compressed reduced swelling in no time, then I did my other ankel last month tore the ligaments again but unfortunately they are very weak both of them, now fit again but have to strap both ankels up whenever I want to play football. Playing tomorrow night but for the reserves and hopefully should be back in the first team for saturday. I know how you feel your career wont be over just keep strenghing and I recommend seeing a physio who will used ultrasound and electrotherapy or something like that speeds recovery so much more increased blood flow and knits the ligaments back together stronger. Goodluck

Its been over 2 weeks now, been hitting the gym every day, kicked a football for the first time today (Was just 1 kick lol). I'm feeling pretty confident that i will be back for the beginning of the season. I'm going to start hammering the swimming pool too to strengthen it all up The worst thing is though, my club are playing a final of a cup next week, and it's at St. James' Park, it's been my dream to play there; I'll be there, but in the stands :/

Well I feel as though i could play again now, I have been asked by my coach if i would like to play in a game on Thursday in some sort of Shield game. Don't know if it's too early to start again, give the match a miss and get fit for the beginning of next season. What do you think? I really want to play as i havent played in ages.

If it was me i wouldnt risk it. However if you really want to play that much just ask if you can come on for the last 10 or something.
