Quickshift/gearbox idea

I just had an idea, unsure if it will work and I might well be laughed at but:

I know the satchshift is an awesome bit of kit but I just can't justify the price tag at the moment. I already have a compbrake quickshift but I find the gearstick is not at the right height and the throw isn't quite how I want it.

So what about this - a common mod on Mk1 & Mk2 golfs (bring the quickshift higher up from the hell and keep the distance between the quickshift and gearknob as standard:



On the 3D model, the quickshift mount is attached to a 'mock up' of the shell. Was a very quick model and would obviously be reworked at a later date

Obviously a longer gear leaver would be required but I believe it COULD work, obviously calculations would need to be made to determine the correct movement for the gear linkages but in effect you could bring the gearstick fairly close to the steering wheel right?

After having my EP3 as a daily, the gear stick is in a very nice and comfortable position and is something I got use to very quickly. My saxo is a track only car, not road legal or anything so I wouldn't need to worry about road use. Materials etc also cost me nothing due to getting them free at uni .

So what you think guys, could be a simple and effective solution?

yes that should work harv all your doing is changing the pivot point. i made my own short shift on the vts by chopping where it attaches to the linkage and welding a sleeved piece of pipe in place. i say go for it. its not costing anything and if it works succsesfully you may have a saleable product.

Which you will have to put into mass production lol

Should reduce the throw but this wouldn't increase the height of the stick though, would it (could be picturing it wrong)?

He would lengthen the gear stick, so basically a longer / higher gearstick and changing the pivot point. Looks like a good idea, you will have to work everything out though before making it

Ah I see now, Thought he was just talking about raising the pivot point.

It's definitely something I'll get stuck into during the summer months but it won't be simple due to the pivot points etc. I've got a feeling it won't work due to some rough calculations I've done but we will see how it goes.

I would guess that moving the pivot point that high would cause trouble with the lower end of the gear lever hitting the sides of the chassis tunnel.

Has anyone tried fitting a gear stick that works with wire cables to a saxo-106 ??
I have seen race 205's using them and a swift gti !

If you rally want to get the shift where you want
then go and get a c2 g/box + all gearchange system
It is cable change so you can then fix the gearchange lever assembly where ever you wish
Tam leek did it on his ax s/c track car

slightly besides the point what steering wheel is that? also with the quickshift the force youll have to use to get it into the gear will be multiplied and youll have to be very forceful on the gearstick, could cause the lengthening process to weaken/break, also the upstands (as shown) will they be adjustable until you get how your happy with the throw?

I was looking at a C2 in the scrappy the other day and noticed the cable gear change. Looked like it could be done quite easily, just need to fab a bracket for each of the two cables.

c2 thing has been done and works well

my gearchange has become a touch more stiff since fitting lincage etc.... i just make sure all points are well greased. its the best i can do for now.

oh and the wheel is a omp 50mm dish...

Is it me or is this basically the way a compbrake works?
