TWeird development.

Now the alt belt has always seemed a bit squeeky and noticed the batt light occasionally coming on the dash.
Assumed alt wasn't performing up to scratch because of the belt so ignored

Tried starting the car yesterday and it tried and then gave up. Every turn of the key since then it made a noise like someone getting tazered. Weird. Assumed not enough battery so hooked it up to the mains.

Now the little battery machine said the battery was half full so you would assume there is enough power in the batt to start the car. Nope. Had it on the mains for a few mins and hey presto car springs to life!

Tonight same thing happens. Though didn't bother to hook it up just noticed that when you turn the ignitoon on there is a loud whining noise. Out of curiosity I whacked the hazards on and funnily enough the whining was alternating in tone to the flash of the lights. So with a headtorch I look in the bay trying to find the problem. All I can tell is that the noise is below the battery/around the gearbox area.

What is the problem?

Starter motor?
Battery?
The clifford alarm draining too much battery?

Starter is behind the engine. And if it starts then surely it's working. Wouldnt be affected by hazards. Sounds like battery isn't holding charge. Is it getting used? Cos if not the battery will be drained by alarm. Which from what it sounds is the problem. Can you drive it at all? Give it a hour drive after a charge, see what happens next time you start it up, but leave it a day. Least you know then

Sell the alarm bit pointless on a 106 even more so if your gonna track it.
Use the money to fund something else.
I've disconnected all my alarm system and still have the pleasure ov using my central locking

If that fails, remember, you can always bash the sh*t out of it with your foot. Heard you've been practicing.

Are there any 'must do's' before or during removing an alarm system? Might have a go at it today if I get time. Really I want the dash off but I've heard thats a royal pain in the ass.

It's not that bad to get off. But there is a bolt or two in the slam panel. I done it once years ago. Can't remember now. Is there a market for second hand alarms?

Ironically one of my favourite film parts. Spent every free minute in Afghanistan 2007 watching this as there was no tv or electricity anywhere but the ops room.
Good times

This week may see me remove the dash and hopefully get rid of that terribly heavy looking bit of carpet/sound deadening stuff.

The aim is to have a stupidly nimble and very light car from which to add throttle bodies and go show the turbo boys what these little french cars should be all about

Just a small change but looks better imo.

Just need to sell the angel eyes and get some standards on.
Anyone interested?

I dont have unlimited funds I can chuck at a car every month anymore so this is becoming more of a rebuild/restoration/track build.

Yes. Just not a lot lately.
