Would be a shame if it was a problem with the pump though, lol

I can see by the marks on the piston crown, that the valve timing has been incorrect.

The valves may not be bent and could still seal? Otherwise you will have to rebuild the cylinder head.

Easy mistake, there is not much room for error when setting the timing.

Check the valves seal!

Remove the camshaft.

Tip the head on its side (ports facing upwards) and pour diesel down the ports.

They should all leak diesel out very slowly and at the same rate. (past the valve)

If the level drops in one of the ports very quickly, the corresponding valve needs re-seated.

hahahahaha!

The pistons have been hitting the valves because the bottom end bearings are worn.

That happened to me, I just assumed it was sticking valves.

At least you found that before you broke a conrod.

I thought it was top end making a ticking noise.

so I ignored it, until I noticed it was very rough at idle. the whole car was shaking. I thought it was misfire or a faulty injector.

after driving 10 miles, the noise got louder. That's when I knew the rod was about to break. so I just kept driving home until it broke.

drove it 120 miles on 3 cylinders hahaha!
