Default power fuse melted

Had a look through the searches and couldn't find the answer I needed. I'm just stripping out my sound system and have noticed the power cable fuse (near the battery) has melted! I've had a bit of sound problems but nothing that would make me think it was anything to do with the fuse going, just a bit of fuzzy comp probs which I thought was the wiring. I've got this fuse: "Gold Plated AFS Fuseholder with 40A Fuse" and I'm running a amp/sub combo plus comps/amp using 4awg and 8awg plus 2 dizzys. I thought that fuse was plenty good enough. So is it just that I need a new fuse, or a prob with it? Cheers

do you mean the fuse has melted but still works? if so its probably a dodgy fuse, theyre supposed to melt/blow and break the connectionj

40A sounds like a small fuse to be running a sub AND comps.. if you add up all the fuse sizes on your amps what does it come to?

if the fuse has melted and not blown you are trying to pull to much current through it. I would try to up the fuse to a 50 or a 60 amp fuse. What fuses are on the sub amp and the comps amp. add these up and add 10.

I've got this sub amp:

It's got 2 30's on it and my comps amp is a JBL GTO 75.2 and has a 30 on it.

Yeah, you need to use a 100A fuse mate, 40A is way way way too small. Remember the fuse next to your battery is to protect the wire incase it shorts out and causes a fire, so the fuse size should be set for the size wire youre using, not the amps. Dont worry about the amps, they have their own fuses to protect them from overloading. for 4awg wire you need a 100-120A fuse.
