Funnily enough this randomly happened to me this morning before work, I'm going to investigate tomorrow as I have a day off but I can't stand bloody electrics.

My rear demister is fine & my heaters are fine, the battery light has been lighting up a litle bit lately so I'm guessing it could be the alternator.

Just to bump this up, cracking thread this.

my rear demister & heaters were actually dead aswel, don't think I checked them before I just assumed as I thought they were blowing on the way to work.

I found the brown connection block & as a test I rounded the circuit off with a 10p piece, started the car and boom PAS/heaters & demister all back on, going to go down maplins shortly to get some wire/terminals to do it properly.

Thanks rep!

Remove the steering column cover (held on by 2 torx) and under the steering column is a light brown plastic connector with 2 red wires going in the right side and 2 brown wires coming out the left side.

Cut the 2 brown wires and join them together. Make sure you solder the wires or use a proper crimp connector and make sure u use insulation tape to cover it. and tape up the 2 lose ends of the brown wires.

Can anyone tell me what amp rating the wire that bridges the brown wires needs to be?

In other words what amp rating are the brown wires?

Cheers.

Hi all,

As posted on the recent power steering problem post, I have the same problem as azzer1987. Rear De-mister hasn't worked for ages but im not bothered about that. My power steering doesn't work when the car/engine bay is cold. For example, its worked all summer no problem but last winter and this one now its only working when car as been ticking over or driven then left ticking over for a while and engine bay is warm.

Im an aircraft engineer by trade so im pretty good at fault finding but can't think what it could be. At first thought it could possibly be water contamination in the fluid then freezing blocking the pump, but its not been that cold (im gonna change the fluid anyway).

I changed the relay last year and it didn't solve it. I can't be a mechanical fault because it wouldn't be intermittent, it would be fu*ked all the time. The only other thing I can think of is it could the cold affect the electrical resistance in the circuit via a bare wire somewhere???

Any ideas or experience of this???

Dave

Anyone got a full wiring diagram of this circuit they can scan and post on here??

Need to see which wire is the exciter for the relay.

Another happy customer. Did this mod yesterday and everything's back to normal.

Took it round the garage told him that the PAS, heaters and demister weren't working - he said he used to work for Citroen and the easiest thing to do is this mod.

Wanted £50 to do it like, so I did it myself.
