According to the article, he was alive when medivac'd by helicopter to the nearest hospital. Last listed in critical condition. The car was split into 3 pieces by the impact. Looks like it hit the rear quarter panel on an angle, so guessing the rear axle sheared off, taking the back end of the car with it, the engine/front axle tore out, taking the front end with it, and the remaining bit was what remained of the cabin.

He survived, There was an hour long program on it on discovery channel where the chap who it was, was interviewed, It was some program trying to prevent accidents or something this was a storm drain that was sunk into the ground creating a huge ramp if i recall correct
