I get that and the problem is usually solved by un-plugging and plugging back in my net router.
I think it is more the PS3 being fussy than anything else. There was a lad banging on about how it was the new map pack causing the problem but I'm fairly sure it did it before the map pack came out.
I notice that if the PS3 is on stand-by and I use my laptop and go on the net then use my PS3 to play COD I get that message you mentioned. I plug and un-plug a lot anyway so it is not a big deal for me.

tbh ive researched all the possible cures for this and not one has worked.
It seems to work ok in the morning though? Maybe because the router has been off all night and given a break? lol

I'm game. K/D Ratio of 1.9ish (I used to be soooo bad it's unreal, stick with it) I usually place top in TDM, but mostly play SnD.
Whats peoples PSN ID's? Mines cobba_ranga (haha don't ask why, it's sort of a piss take)
Is this cod4 or cod5? I've got both but play 4 loads more.

Sorry for double post. I used to get this all the time. You need to untick UPnP in both your ROUTER settings and you PS3 Connection settings, and it should connect every time within seconds then.

What router/broadband setup do you have?
Basically there should be some kind of page accessable to the router from your PC (like a webpage) where you can customise settings etc.
On this somewhere there should be an option called "UPnP" which means Universal plug n play. Basically in theory this means your Router and PS3 should connect on a dynamic IP basis (basically means you IP changes next time you turn the PS3) depending on what's available etc. So in theory this is good because it means it doesn't waste IP Addresses when things aren't in use, but somewhere along the line, Sony fucked it up, and the PS3 UPnP system doesn't work very well at all. The data get's lost in transmission between what it thinks is a new IP address, which the PS3 isn't actually running on, hence the massively long time on the downloading game settings.
So to cut a long story short, you want your router to give your PS3 a static IP address, that it will always have, so to do this you need to delete the connection off the PS3, turn UPnP off in your router settings, then do the connection settings again, making sure not to select UPnP in the PS3 settings either.

In response to this and your comment on my page. Yeah that's pretty much what buggers it up, so make sure anything saying UPnP is off, and you should be all good.

I honestly do not think it will load when it is doing what Liam is on about.
I left it for 40 minutes once!
The best thing to do ime is to unplug both the PS3 and net router, re-plug them in and try again. This has worked everytime for me.

It may do eventually, but it's very unlikely, so pretty much that's the case yeah.
When you do what you say, it's basically reseting the whole IP cache on the router, which in effect is what causes the problem, so yes it should work after doing that. but If you disable UPnP, you shouldn't have to ever do that, if that makes sense?
