Default Key locked up in the ignition barrel; PAS out.

Hey guys,
I couldn't move the key in the barrel either way - its completely stuck. After deciding to head back home I also noticed that the power steering went out.
Right before parking the car it was working perfectly fine.
Had to stall the car and disconnect the battery.
Could it be that the ignition shorted out my PAS somehow, or maybe the other way around?
How do I go about it?

You will need to change your ignition switch.

Check the torx screw that holds the barrel is tight first though. they often work loose.

Ignition switch as in the whole thing, right? I do have a spare key, I closed the car with the remote and then disconnected the battery.
Does it mean that my central locking unit gotta go too? Its OEM btw.

I think you can split it and remove the actual switch part from the barrel, I've never taken mine out so can't confirm.

Check the screw is tight first

Aight, thanks mate, gonna get to it in the morning.
Seems like my saxo wanted to drive some more.
Then again, would the screw/broken switch make the power steering go out like that?
Power steering never gave me any problems before and I guess its very unlikely that it broke in the same exact moment cuz of something else.

Yes it could cause it to cut out, depends how the switch failed really

Check the alternator connections though, especially if it's got the later type alternator with the 2 pin plug. Could be random.

Had a new ignition barrel with the switch installed. It works fine now, except power steering is still out.
Also after push-starting the car to get to the shop, a new problem occured: immediatelly after starting it jumps to about 2k revs, bounces back and forth between about 1.5-2k, then, after a short drive, while im stopped on the red light it jumps to about 3.5-4k revs!
What could've gone wrong? I've scared dozens of old ladies driving my saxo home.

Im thinking it might be the stepper motor thingy (is this how you call it in the UK?)

The high idle problem could be the stepper motor

Did you check the connections on the alternator? As it supplies a signal to the power steering pump relay. It's common for the plugs to work loose which stops the pump from working.

Check all your main cables and earth's are tight too.

It was the stepper motor indeed.
I just noticed, that apart from PAS, the heater blower and rear demister are also dead.

Could it be, that the guy who replaced my ignition barrel & switch fucked it up somehow?
All the symptoms seem to be the same.
Should I mention this to my auto electrician?
I don't wanna go nowhere near any wires myself, Im gravely terrified of all sorts of wiring
