Is the loss or torque at low rpm because there is no back pressure and higher up the rev range it pulls better because there is no restriction and gases are flowing more 'freely'?

More to do with pulse tuning from not having an expansion box earlier in the system.
Which is why straight through systems are not allways the best despite people thinking so. They forget pulse tuning which is very very important.

Well erm I knew when I bought the car that the alternator was a bit dodgy but figured as it was occasionally dodgy I'd just run it into the ground... Well judgementoth of thy alternator hath cometh.
First sign that the paxo wasn't happy was when the abs light came on (?) then flicked off 10 seconds later followed by the instrument panel suddenly shitting itself (all dials went to zero), then immediately kicked in again (yo) with the abs and airbag lights up. Unphased by paxo throwing a hissyfit at me I continued onward with my journey
...for about 10 bloody seconds before I realised my dials had frozen in a glorious patriot to windows ninetybastardeight. Anyway pulled over thinking I could rescue the sickly paxo from it's automotive bluescreen of death by doing a cheeky restart and yonking the negative terminal from the battery. It reset the dash. Yay. But would it start. Would it fuck.
Battery had no jungle juice.
Ah well RAC are fitting me a new one for free.
Weather is nice and sunny too.

It's mad when it happens.... It happened once when I knocked the key slightly, just turned it back on and away I went... but it was crazy this time round...
anyway a snippet from yesterdays events.
Stuck on the A358 at Illminster weather was lovely though
RAC man pulling out the old alternator
The new alternator going in!
So... I now have a brand spanking new alternator, fitted for free by the RAC.
Seriously though, RAC are fcuking wicked, I pay £5 a month for my Barclays Graduate Account which gives me New for Old iPhone insurance and RAC Roadside cover... Best £5 a month I've ever spent highly recommended.

Barclays were trying to sell me that cover the other day on my account, might be something worth looking into now, especially as I'll have the mile muncher VTS tomorrow.
VTS wheels Sayer, let us know cheers.

well worth it after yesterdays events. I thought they'd just tow me to the nearest garage and f-off again and leave me picking up a bill for a horrendously overpriced second hand alternator and fitting charge. But no the guy was like 'right, we can tow you to home, charge your battery and follow you home, or I can take the old alternator out, go get new one, put the new one in for you...'
option 3. win.
Luke, they're black, crap, and have no tyres.

Bit of a shitter going is the alternator stupid later ones have a different plug on them and they always seem to be more expensive then older ones.
