Portable hard drive not showing?

Using Windows XP.
Have a Seagate 500gb portable hard drive here. Connected it by USB to my pc, and it recognised the new hardware, installed it and deemed it "installed and ready to use".

However, it doesnt show in the My Computer window, though my other hard drives and DVD drives do.

When I go to Device Manager, it shows in "Disk drives" as a "Seagate portable drive" so its obviously reading correctly.

Any idea why it wont show in My Computer? I cant think how else to access it.

Going into the Volumes tab of the disks properties, it says
"Status : Not Initialized
Partition style: Not Applicable"

Is it brand new, if so it mite need formating first.
