Post The long overdue progress thread... Saxo VTS

Hello everyone,

I introduced myself in the newbies section in April and only just got around to putting together a progress thread - apologies..

I purchased this VTS in March.

The following problems were apparent.

Since the photos were taken I've turned it around on the drive and taken a further look at the car.

I've noticed there are two lights on the dashboard.

Engine management light - the previous owner tells me this is due to an oxygen sensor missing as the manifold was a 4-2-1 previously. (this may also relate to the smell of petrol when the engine is running)

ABS light - the previous owner tells me this is due to the passenger side sensor wire has split.

The alarm has started to go off when the key is turned in the ignition, only when I hold the button down on the dash and start the car it turns off. (I'm aware the alarm can be disconnected under the dash)

Aside from the above mechanical issues, I've managed to source most of the parts needed.

Purchased the following;

Full set of seats including door cards.
Rear bumper.
Fog light.
Rear lights.
Boot cover.
Wheel arch.
Parcel shelf.
Rear seat belts and buckles.
New set of dust caps.
A few bits of plastic to hold the parcel shelf and boot mat.
Washer bottle cap.

I still need to get the following;

Correct size wheel nut.
Lambda sensor or two
ABS sensor

I have a few questions that I hope you knowledgeable lot can help me with.

Can I disconnect the alarm under the dash as per the guide on here with the battery disconnected? Basically with this still prevent the alarm going off when I reconnect the battery and try to start the car? *I know disconnecting the battery will prevent an electric shock etc however will it work with the battery disconnected?*

Can you tell me where specifically I need to look under the car/ in the engine bay to locate the lambda sensors? Having read the forum I believe one should be on the manifold and one near the backbox? *I may have answered my own questions however specifically where they are located would help me

Does this wire relate to the ABS? - If so what do I need to connect it to and if something is missing what do I need to buy to get it fitted?

I'll post up some pictures of how it looks now.

Any help or advise would be appreciated and thanks in advance - TSFMS

Alrite pal, good to see a Vts being rescued properly! Shouldn't be too long before you have it up to standard.
With regards to the alarm, im not sure what will happen if you try it your way. See what happens tho i guess. Speaking from experience with a 106, i entered the code to get the green light, then disconnected the keypad and never needed it again.
The lambda sensors are indeed just below the manifold and on the downpipe after the cat.
That wire looks like your lower lambda wire. Because you have an aftermarket exhaust im guessing it didn't come with a threaded hole for the lambda.
I may be corrected if im wrong but i hope this helps.

I believe there is a guide somewhere, ****NOTE**** There are 2 types of plug MK1 & MK2 (I think) this is the one I use on our 03 VTS

All you need is a multimeter, remove the plug from the ABS pump (behind battery) you have to pull the orange arm towards the wing & at the same time put a bit of upward pressure on. Turn the plug over & it should look like

Then with a multimeter set it to measure resistance go across each set of terminals from above, you should get some sort of reading, all of which will be similar across all 4, that reading will depend on your meter, but it's not really important, it's any reading that you need.

If you find one that doesn't give a reading remove the appropriate wheel & follow the wire back it will go to a connector (front are just under the chassis rail, rear are behind axle on bulkhead) get a bit of stiff wire, mig welding wire is ideal, short out the wires coming from the connector you are testing from. Go back to the connector & make sure that you have a full short this proves the harness is good.

Once identified replace the sensor they are under £10 each off Fleecebay

Smile Update 20.08.16

@Bender - hey pal, hopefully it wont take too long to get it running OK and back on the road. I'll have to give disconnect the alarm with the battery disconnected and hope for the best... Thanks for the advice re; lambda I've got some ramps so hopefully I will be able to get some better pictures to help you guys.

@Manu - you will be pleased to know the lights have been removed!

@Phaeton - Thanks for the help, if I can't get my hands on a multimeter - although they are cheap to buy would this help locate the issue?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Diagnostic-...720636&sr=1-25

@Saxokid100 - thanks

So in terms of an update for everyone I've removed the hideous lights and replaced them with originals and fitted a replacement bumper. It looks a lot better already...

I've also removed the blue wheel arch and fitted the correct colour. In doing so I noticed the indicator bulb and holder was missing which was also replaced.

I'll post pictures of the inside once I've cleaned it up and fitted the interior bits.

Thanks - TSFMS

Unbolt the ecu but don't disconnect it,then check for rust under.Do the same the other side with the big fuse box.

Since there were a few issues namely the engine management light and abs light on the dash, I decided to get a local mechanic to plug in and tell me what's wrong.

A 1 mile drive and £10 later...

Issues;
No 2 probe heater - wrong probe fitted?
Secondary air injector system fault
Cylinder 1 misfire + multi cylinder
Front right ABS sensor
Rear left ABS sensor
Rear Discs and Pads
O/S Handbrake cable
Battery insecure

Advises

Rear main brake pipe corroded
Windscreen scratched
Emissions

I can get hold of the parts required, however can someone advise what the issues could be that relate to the secondary air injector system fault and cylinder 1 misfire + multi cylinder - Could this be the spark plugs and/or coilpack?

Thanks

TSFMS

Injector fault could just be a faulty injector itself, the misfire is likely to be the coilpack.Although taking the plugs out to inspect would be a good idea.

Thanks Stevo67.

Would I be right in thinking these are the correct parts?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Petrol-Fue...IAAOSwNuxXY86c

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-OE-Qual...UAAOSwEetV8Vqo

Obviously I will contact the seller to check for the model of my vehicle.

Thanks - TSFMS

I'm trying to find the correct lambda sensor, as the one fitted is incorrect.

Mechanic stated on the paperwork - No 2 probe heater* *wrong probe fitted*

Which one do I need to buy?

or

Secondary air injector system fault

I believe this will be the fresh air pump that is behind the passenger (i think, it's been a while) fog light. It was to do with euro emissions on cold start.
I removed mine, including associated pipe work, but it was on a track car.

Looks a good little project this. Get the rot checked under the fuse box and ECU.
