Traction Loss
Right so, I changed my rear tyres to rid myself of dry weather traction loss, and basically it didn't.

Plant it in 3rd at say 80, DSC comes on ( I would Imagine as I only go 70), knock it from 7th to 5th on track at 100+ and it's the same deal.

So, I thought the solution would be to knock DSC off and probably end up backwards through a hedge on fire, after a bit of googling it would appear that "MDM" mode (M Dynamic Mode) is what I need to drive in.

Quote:
Activating the M Dynamic Mode and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) gives your sports ambitions free rein. Drive slip for both longitudinal and transverse dynamics increases at all speed levels because DSC does not instantly intervene in the automobile's motion. This does not impact on safety, however: it is just a means to increase driving pleasure.
So basically it will let you wheelspin a bit and go a bit sideways without you wrapping it, but it only actually works in M mode? ugh so if I'm spooning along in could mode and I tap the power button and floor it, DSC is going to cut in, I'm going to have to knock it into "M" every time I want to gun it, which I suppose is for the best....

Fuel
I've been running it on 95 RON, I wanted to get 2k through it before switching to the good stuff, there's a sticker in the fuel filler saying 95-98 RON so I wanted to see the real world outcome. The word on the street is that the Vpower will give me some extra MPGzzz, however:

So it would seem I might not even need to bother

Auto bawx
The auto box is a bit special also, it learns how you drive, I reset the box by driving at over 40mph in neutral and pulling the paddles for 6 seconds, then drove like a granny for a tank.

This is good because on the commute it's changing up good and early, but up some sliproads you're in 92nd gear at 11 revs , a quick few clicks of the paddle and you're off, but I should really stop relying 100% on the box to do the work, it's making me lazy.

Kickdown doesn't exist according to the forums too, which I thought was odd, but pootling along at 60 in 7th it will happily change to 4th even in wafty cloud mode.

There's a lot to this car, I'm starting to get more comfortable with it which is allowing me to increase my pace, but I still love the fact that it's 2 cars in 1, I can take the kids around in it and it's a smoother ride than my 320d ever was, and when you want to you can unleash hell.

I'm utterly smitten with it

Right, well it's just ticked over 60k which means 2 things, 1 if the warranty lapses I'll need to sell my kidneys to pay for a new one, and 2 the big service is due.

Sparkplugs - £320 ish
Cabin Filters - £100 ish
Engine intake filters - £250 ish
Engine, Diff & SMG oil and seals, circa 1k
Software update - Free!

Also it's going in for some warranty bits, the keyless is being a tart and it can take 2 days to diag the bloody car, so it's going in for a long weekend and I'll get some sort of premium loaner, I hope it's not shit!

While it's in I'm getting the + paddle changed, my automatic load cover looked at, my non powered boot strut and anything else I can think of.

The problem is that the module for the keyless "Comfort access" is in the rear spoiler, which isn't water tight, top German engineering there! but they have to run a full software diag on the car before they can swap the module.

It's getting done through my BMW warranty but the dealer I bought the car from is paying the excess so it's costing me nothing, I just need to beed from my ass for a while for the service.

£320ish for spark plugs?! That's shit the bed crazy!

This is a whole new world of spark plug pricing for me, why so expensive? I know you need 10 of them now, but £32 a plug?! Is that normal? Doesn't seem that unrealistic now actually...

You'll probably get something shit like a black RS4 Avant.

Or a Matiz hopefully.

On PistonHeads, one bloke had his Lambo in for some work and his insurance company loaned him a 12c Spider which he preferred to his own car haha!

When the 3 series went in for paint the insurance were like "you qualify for a premium car, do you have an image to maintain" I was like "wtf I'm not a bell end just give me something normal", she then offered me an Astra "I'm not driving an Astra like" ended up in a spankers 3 series, 2.0td as we all know the best car in the world
