when accellerating
ok dunno if this is normal, im new to cars lol. It could be my clutch not sure but what does this sound like to you:
when i accellerate (it happens sometimes in 3rd gear)
and put my foot all the way down, it speeds up a bit the feels like its holding back and then goes, is it normal? i cant describe it.
my car sometimes revs on its own in the cold, and also when im driving it can be become bad because the car suddenly feels like its breaking harshly, but the engine doesnt cut out.
any ideas?
cheers

When you put your foot down and it hesitates does the revs get higher but not your speed, if so could be possible clutch.

i have a quater of tank now, when it did this it was under a quater a tank and other times i did not remember how much fuel i had in. (its a petrol car)
when it hesitates, the revs don't increase but decrease, this is only for under a second... thanks for replies!

sometimes it can be really bad, like i said earlier, the car sometimes (not all the time) but quite rarely, feels like i'm doing an emergency stop for just under a second, almost a more intense version of the hesitation... this is quite dangerous when im pulling out at a junction and need to be quick (gets quite busy in my town)
its basically loosing revs, randomly. enough to be noticed though, and at least once or twice on every drive... the intense one isnt as much, but i think they could be related,
Any suggestions?
It's a 1999 1.1 east coast
thanks!

hmmmm... i fink it cud be to do with the injectors, a fueling problem.
not 100% but tht wud be my starting point.
1st step would be to go to a local garage and get a diagnosis for it.
im a mechanic but havnt herd of this b4.
get a diagnosis from garage, get them to giv u price to put it rite and let me know what they say the fault is and the cost, too make sure ther not rippin u off.

Yes after reading this again i think vinny_5saxo could well be right, does sound like its something to do with fueling with the probs you got.
Best get it checked out mate because if its causing the car to surge/hesitate then one day you could be in a difficult situation like the time you've alreadt stated but could be worse!

could be normal, depends on the power band, if your changing gear eg. from 3rd wen you only have 2 ooo rpm to 4th will be sluggish until it picks up

cheers will do =)
It is after i change gear yes. not usually in first gear, but the intense one can be in first gear sometimes when setting off (at a junction)
but i'll get it diagnosed, im just worried they wont be able to detect it because it sometimes doesnt always happen, but ill explain to a garage, and let you know what they say i don't get ripped off haha

its not sluggish, its like
it speeds up, looses revs and slows then catches on again and speeds up, only for a second or two

since jan 08. I use it almost every day so it gets a good run, its done 54k miles.
i noticed that it uses alot of petrol too for a 1.1, £10 lasted me what, two days? lol.
seems to be getting worse!

i've got this at the moment too.. i put my foot down... rev goes from 2 to 3, then the speed gradually increases after a second delay! YOUR CLUTCH IS SLIPPING.

READ THE SLIPPING PART.

no, the engine isnt racing or over revving though, it drops revs, like it has no power behind it... its the opposite of slipping . Mind you, when i lift the clutch up i can hear like a faint scraping noise and the car vibrates, when i push the clutch down the noise has gone and the vibration stops (on a cold engine)
unless the clutch is going AS well... but i don't think the loss of revs is due to the clutch?
