well wouldnt pull the same... a vtr box is alot longer than a vts box!!!

and no a 1.1 is basiclly the same as vts box... 1.4 xsi box or s1 box are the shortest.

Thanks for the interest peeps The gearbox solution I currently have will not be long-lived I think. Time will tell, but we've designed the power and delivery to be less harsh at lower rpm's to try to take some of the stress out of the transmission. Whether a MA/quaife/spline support kit can take the power, only time will decide

I spoke to John at home tonight - things have progressed very well with the car. The majority of the initial rolling road tuning has now been completed. Due to some wheel spin issues John wanted to road test it before making some finer tweeks. The road test cant happen just yet though due to a design/decision issue with the new brake setup.

As I'd opted to dump the servo, we now need to play around with the pedal/cylinder/piston area to get a decent feeling brake setup. This has caused a few issues which are still being sorted. Should have some answers from a specialist brake manufacturer on Monday

Putting the temporary brake issue to one side, everything else seems to be great. The engine and all of the new components are running very well. The Predator has done a pretty good job by all accounts and startup/idle with the turbo-spec cams is near on perfect.

Still a couple of weeks worth of playing around I feel, but initial results show strong power around the 250bhp @ wheels mark, at 1bar. Slightly higher than I was expecting at that boost level. I had planned to boost to 1.5bar, but currently the std actuator pressure is being used. Based on the 1bar power, 1.5bar isn't going to be possible with the transmission setup

Power figures wont be confirmed for a while yet, so dont get too worked up

I was considering a mk2 front end Matt, but decided to stick with mk1 and the arches and just sort different bumpers out. Not sure what I'm doing to flare the bumpers yet though.

can you get the s1600/maxi bumpers? get a bit chopped out yours and it extended

or can you not make the bumper brackets spaced?

cant remember how your arches come out will have a look after this

why say facelift project if not mk2ing?!

When I head up to see the car I will chat with John about increasing the boost further - that was my original plan. With all of the goodies packed into the engine, the approx. power is still pretty decent at 1bar

Hopefully the car will make TRAX. Its gonna cut it fine and there's no way all of the bodywork will be fettled by then. Also got a load of stuff at home/work going on... but im not giving up yet!

arches you could just have a small extension to follow it onto a standard bumper? would be the easiest way to sort that out

I spoke to John quite a bit regarding the ECU and Ash who was doing some mapping, and he did confirm 250@wheels with *only* 1bar of boost, frankly that's quite astonishing and would actually represent to most powerful car my ECU has been on!

Good times!

All going well so far Andy

Still have a few dilemma's with the brake setup. The "manufacturer's" aren't exactly being too helpful, so its back to the calculator and notepad to figure something out. Maybe removing the servo wasn't the simplest of options

John has had the car back on the rollers yesterday to try and sort the low end of the map out to try to get the spool time lower. I changed the turbo unit to try and remove back pressure, whilst also deliver a higher boost level, but with the cams/headwork/valves, etc it now appears to be breathing a little too well lol.

Should have a power graph soon.

That's 290bhp (crude calculation on matchbox) at the flywheel, I think chasing low end power is going to be tricky.... the air is probably not going to be moving quick enough.

You could try mucking about with the cam timing because you can bring the torque peak down. This will give you a 'net gain' in torque-under-the-curve since rev's bring inefficiency...
