Default Best ecu?

Im currently doing a small track day conversion on my furio looking at doing vts conversion with sandy brown throttle bodies, straight through exhaust, cams of some sort
Nothing exciting just a little toy to play with
I was just wondering what after market ecu's people would recommend for this sort of set up
Cheers

cheers pal, yeah alot of people say

"see what your mapper prefers" but there are loads in a fairly small area, alot of people will map the predator because it runs megasquirt tuning software. tbh it made very little difference to me as i was gonna map it myself so i had to learn. the predator is so versatile it can be a git to get to grips with, the omex software can be a sod when you first look at it but its not that bad once you get going...

ive found the emerald the easiest software to get used to so far but thats my personal preference.

I cant say I've had much experience with any of the above except Emerald. I found the software brilliantly easy to use and so did the mappers.

Initial set up (what I was most concerned about!) was an absolute doddle and it plugged straight into my existing loom, although that wasnt a saxo.

not everybodies first response--that actually does the tuning
Sandy brown +I disagree on a few things ,but both use the DTA by choice
predator is good aswell --but go by your tuners choice --so he has no excuse for it not working as you want --all ecu systems have good =bad bits =require alot of getting to know them --that is why if not doing it yourself it will be best to stick to tuners advice

Hahaha!! Sorry, i said in a private message that and i quote "90% of people that have nothing todo with the mapping of it will say omex"

There are some people out there who do like omex and get good results atspeed i believe is one, my comment about the go to response was more aimed at people who have little-no knowledge on ecu's and their capabilities but just want to have some input...

I couldnt agree more tbh ive not really got into the dta bit but thats only because ive never been in real contact with a car that uses the system, unfortunately this is a topic that is very opinionated especially for the middle of the range ecu's about the £600 mark and alot of it is down to personal preference and tweeking for your setup... The dta may be slightly better at n/a because of the table size or accuracy where as something else might be favoured for boost or a rotary application...

Personally if there is someone close to you that is happy mapping a predator (iirc its ms2extra based) then purely for cost and what you require it todo that would be my choice... THAT IS MY OPINION

no problem -- the dta is just as good for boosted as anything --and to myknowledge is the the only one that can run a REAL time wideband correction --to allow fine tuning of the map --it also has the best diagnostics .-- again all personal views
the omex cannot run w/b at any price of unit

Its simple. Find the local company who is going to do the mapping and go with what they use (if decent) Theres no point travelling 200 miles each way because you bought an ecu that no-one uses..

If you're not getting my Predator, then I can't see any reason to get the Omex over the DTA to be honest. I'd get the DTA myself if I could be bothered with wiring!

Why do you need W/B Lambda control if its mapped correctly in the first place? Narrow band should be good enough to control emissions. Omex does have D/L but it is a tad pants i admit.

Omex and Emerald have something DTA doesn't.....Customer support. Which can be worth its weight in gold.

Id rather blow torch my own nipples off than use DTA.

why wide band
firstly because you can see the afr at all loads - thats important with boost especially
it can correct the mapping when switched on to fine tune --especially useful for the light loads and cruise which are hard to get on the rollers where inlet emps etc are unlikly to be same as real world--if you have a gauge as well you can see if the mapper did it right .
the self adjustment function is the ideal way of perfecting a map
why not narrow band cos it can only read accuratley around lambda 1 and is no good at all for full load fuelling
AS for customer support --DTA man can be a little offhanded when talking to peole who don,t read the manual and his attitude is that you should be talking to the man who sold it you or mapped it --they should know what they are doing +they should give the support --
I certainly get more sense if i have a problem talking to the DTA man who wrote the softeware than to omex who only buy it off GEMS and it is a cut down EM36 wiith lots of functions disabled
when i have need I have found gems designer also very helpfull --but they all expect the person speaking to them knows the job to start with --neither of them are in the biusness of teaching you to tune cars from scratch .
emerald -- dave walker -- unless he has changed he did such a cheap fitting and tuning service --you might as well go direct -he has been at it for 30years + --maybe 40
the idea that you can jsut buy an ecu and fit it yourself without some headaches is unrealistic unless you have lots of knowledge --for them probably better to go predator plug +play or have it fitted by the man thats going to tune it--cos 90%of the time major issues are wiring done by cutomer
they all work well if fitted correctly

Don't disregard AEM either - a very capable ecu at a good price point. I wouldn't buy another omex tbh.
