Which is why i'd say VTS. Should be more reliable, still nippy cars and they handle well. Better than Starlet's apparently.
what exspensive about replacing the turbo on a starlet?? costs £60 for a second hand one, and when it dies? a starlet looked after will run aslong as a NA car, changing the oil every 3-4k miles, and it will be sweet,

a car made to be a turbo, is just as reliable as NA, its when you turbo an NA, people seem to have problems, cos everyone wants there car turbo'd on the cheap

What im talking about though is when you start modding them. Which lets face it, 90% of people on here would buy one and modify it. The cars are designed to run turbo's, yea... but they're designed for only a certain amount of power. Go beyond that and you start breaking stuff alot.

first thing, vts are very very good engine, if you look after them and let them get warm before opening it up like some poeple who own them dont, they will be reliable!!

and standard vs standard, a think it very even, no point talking about modding them as they are very different, one turbo and one not for a start!

but why do poeple ask this on a saxo site lol

anyway i like the glanza IMO!! one round my area looks very very nice!!

and to get a gt 5 now a days in good nick is very very hard!!

but saxo are reliable if they are looked after!! the TU engine a very good engine!!

for fun vs money it is the vts everyday!!

as you can have so much fun in a vts!!

r5 now very old, and unreliable
glanza, relaible, bit more expensive for parts, tho probably less time fixing things
vts, reliability depends on u, cheap parts, which are readily available everywhere.

theres no contest, really the glanza is the best propersition,

if it was not for the saxo reliablility issues it wold probably come out on top as the best car out of thebag

Would pay to see you leave a glanza after reading your progress thread.

Seriously quick cars! with very little fettling can see over 170bhp which is plenty fast. And with a decent enough set of springs / coilovers they can handle just aswell or better than a VTS with the same setup?

VTS is ONLY 120bhp standard which in reality is piss poor. sorry to say it chaps but the glanza is 130bhp standard and weights less, even if the saxo does handle better standard you will ave to brake very late into a corner to catch up with a glanza and dream on about going past him.

Unless your colin mcrae and the person driving the glanza is going backwards.

Its a shame citroen / peugeot dont put more power or thought into theyre cars as standard, renault do and they have a massive sport line up and each one is better than any equivalent from citroen / peugeot hence why pug have given up the GTi dream and left it to people that know what theyre doing like renault and toyota.

120BHP out of a standard 1.6 16v engine isn't that bad, especially taking in to consideration when the engine was developed. Any engine which is the same size has an array of different bits and bobs to add more power. Mainly variable valve timing. If you really think about it, its not that bad.

Agreed its not bad, but its still not that great is it? the new twingo uses a 1.6 16v lump and develops 133ps, now THATS not bad for a 1.6L!

Sorry but citroens target market is the people that want second best!

Yes you can do anything to anything (as was said earlier in thread if you got the money you got the power) but isnt it better to have a good base to start with? Like most people wont have a 1.1 and spend loads modding it, they get a VTS and do that up, they want as much as possible to start with!

Ford is another car manufactuer one that pisses me right off!

"oooh look at our brand new Fiesta ST its a 2 litre! and got a whole 150BHP!!!!!"

my reply is simply...

"renault had that in 1993 with the williams, they're 2 ltr sport hatches are currently pushing 200bhp standard"

But the Twingo has a VVT engine. VVT makes quite a bit of difference. Look at their 1.6 16v non VVT engine in the Clio, its got 110BHP. I can't think of a standard engine, with no fancy toys, that has 120BHP or more. I'm not looking for an argument BTW. I just think the engine deserves a bit more credit.

when the engine was built, the starlet 1.3 was built 1990's, early, producing 130 standard, and with low boost, turned up to a bar, with £600 spent, get 180 bhp. spend £600 on a vts and you get what, a set of cams, and fitted, theres your budget.
