USA iphone?
Going to the states in a couple of days. If i managed to get and iphone over there would it work over here?
Only just thought of this so not 100% sure i will be able to get one without a contract

It will work but it will need to be unlocked.

im also going to the states too.
apple told me that you would only be able to buy a 4g on contract and not on pay as you go in the states(according to the apple workers)

just put my Nokia through the washing machine so will be on the look out for a new phone whilst in the states

Get it unlocked and Jailbroken, My 3G is from Yankland and it works fine over here now that its been unlocked and jailbroke.

The other half was impatient with the ipad and was considering buying one from the states.

Im sure its different, well it looks the same, but it doesnt have the same apps. As sometimes apps are released in the USA first.

as soon as you sync it in the uk it should default to uk app store etc...
All very well saying buy it jailbreak it and unlock it. Chances are the iphone 4 will come with OS 4 which who knows if it can be jail broken or more to the point unlocked...

Words straight out of my mouth Scott.
It took them a fair wee while to get a jailbreak for 3.1.3. iOS4 is completely different so expect it to be much longer if not very unlikely there will be a jailbreak/unlock.
You can buy the iPhone 4 for £449 on PAYG...

Nope Appstore is the same for everything, just the currency is different for each region, but this is based on your Apple Account, not where your iPhone is from.
I have american apps on my iPhone.

I thought the cheapest iphone 4 is 499 for 16GB, or have they added an extra 50 gbp for people preordering?

the iphone OS4 has already been jailbroken but there not releasing it until its been distributed properlly as they dont want apple to fix the jailbreak, not sure about unlocking tho but id imagine that wont be far behind if theyve jailbroken it already

With the 3G, you can jailbreak 4.0 with Spirit.
