Default Music/DJ equipment Trivia for you...

Basically i have a question/Problem that in my head i cant clear up.

Just wondering if anyone knows, If you have USB Speakers (Monitors for music production) which inside, have a soundcard for themselves. How do i add a subwoofer to this USB setup? Or is it not possible?

The speakers themselves have One usb port, Which goes into PC, and vuala, I have sound through the USB Audio codec. Great, But how do i connect a subwoofer to extend my setups response in the lower frequency ranges.

With passive speakers etc, No problems, Of course, a mixer will do the job, Couple of phono's/ Jacks or cables alike, but when your dealing with USB things become a little more " how would that work ".

Anyone have any input, Cheers

With my limited experience in computers and music production I honestly think with usb audio you are going totally down the wrong route... if there are any line out ports on the back of the main speaker, guess it could go there but then will require a seperate amp and crossover...

I used to run an audigy 2 ZS with the breakout box in the front of the computer... this had a seperate line out for each speaker and sub.. all that was required was X amount of amps or one that does all, the audigy software can do all the mixing, also using reason i think it was you could make your own virutal mixers which done the job and that was all on a budget

Hola, I trained in sound engineering. First thing I'd advise is getting rid of USB 'monitoring' speakers. No such thing, they're just speakers! Anyway...

You have the option of coming out into a splitter box and sending the signal three ways, two to the speakers and one to a sub, but it isn't going to produce a good sound, simples.

I'd highly recommend some Rokit RP5's and the sub, it can all be had for a steal off Ebay and the sound quality...for the money...is only really outdone by the VXT's or something along the lines of Genelecs. If you can't do that, your best bet is to invest in some very good quality open back headphones from the likes of Sennheiser. Bass is an omnidirectional sound so you don't have to place it anywhere in a mix but central, so a good pair of cans will give you a very clear picture of what's going on in your mix with relation to the bass and other frequency ranges.

How far along are you with production? You been into it a good while? Lemme know your set up, it's always good to hear what other people are up to. Here's something I did not so long ago, little techno number influenced by people like Vince Watson...
