Default (Upgraded) ECU problem...

Ok, so I got an upgraded ECU from Ebay (obviously mapping for my system would be preferable but lets try and stay on topic).

So the ECU is sold as unlocked.
I have a mk1 single plug ECU.
So I started my car on its normal ECU, unplugged the keypad... so now, my unlcoked ECU starts and stops with no code- great- ready for other ECU...

(One thing to note here, when i turn the key, locked or unlocked, the fuel pump primes).

Ok, so got the new, 'unlocked' ECU- my keypad still detached (which works with my regular, now unlocked ECU). Plugged it in, turned key, it didnt prime pump, cranked engine- nothing. Told the ebay guy, he thought it may be locked/ have locked itself again.

Got another sent- it did the same.

So- the immobilizer. Can I also disconnect that (as well as the keypad) (if you cant say on the forum, please PM me). I want to discount the immobilizer as I understand this is not the same thing as 'the keypad'.

Thanks in advance for your help.

when mine was in normal operation, it needed a keypad to unlock it. However before entering the keycode, it would prime the fuelpump.

... my point being, isnt mine locked until i enter the code?
The new one doesnt prime the fuel pump (even if i cant unlock it, shouldnt it make the fuel pump whirr?

the ecu must have been locked before you fitted it, as im 90% certain that even when it does lock itself, you can start it the first time you try, ive seen and done this myself lol

Thanks everybody- any other info welcome.

They had taken out a pin on the first one, the second one came back with two pins taken out. So I assume it could be locked... and then how would it be unlocked anyway with two missing pins.

I assume that adding some pins, fitting it and entering my old code for the keypad wouldnt unlock it. (Still puzzles me that there is no fuel pump priming- why do normal ones prime before you put the code in... as they are locked at that moment).

So, finally- if it is locked like we think it is, is there a solution (obviously not on a public forum though).

sounds like the map is corrupt, this defiantly isnt a locking issue as the fuel pump would prime.

Is the ecu light coming on?

I have seen this fault before on dead ecus, often due to a bad map or piss poor soldering on the chip holder.

Have you got a link to the ebay seller?

Its been in dispute for the whole time. This is the second ECU.

If it was something easy that somebody said today like 'try ...' and it could be sorted then this was a last ditch attempt at sorting it out.

Ebay will make a decision tomorrow. Once everything is finalised then I will post the name of the seller- I dont want to do that until it 'definitely over' so to speak.

I emailed two other buyers, one hasnt replied yet but the other has and hasnt fitted his yet.

last ebay special i dealt with was somebody had bought just the chip itself and it was totally blank.

If you want me to have a look at the ecu send me a PM. If the damage isnt permanent I can fix it for a few quid
