how do paypal actually do this? how do they know you have never recieved the item, i.e you could of recieved the item and sent them the money for it, you tell them you havent received it when you have and you get your money back aswell?

^^Up to the Seller to provide a proof of postage/courier I believe.

I made a claim a while back, Paypal gave the seller 10 days Iirc to respond to what happened. If they don't respond within that time.. Paypal will just refund you your money, regardless of whatever.

Someone off here made a claim against me a while back, I provided proof of postage, with the persons name and address on it, paypal still refunded it all. Bit of an annoyance really as it was £160 of stuff.

paypal need to see proof of delivery not postage if you send something make sure its a service that has a signature otherwise if someone opens a dispute saying they havent got it then paypal will always side with them unless you can prove delivery.
Also just incase you dont know this if someone pays you with paypal then collects the item from you then says they didnt receive it once again paypal will refund them due to no proof of delivery.
whether you are a buyer or seller if you protect yourself you will be fine
and one last thing always send to the registered paypal address if you send it elsewhere once again no proof of delivery
